At least he has received the update ... mine still has not.

What worked for me was parking the vehicle on an even surface and hooking up a trickle charger. After ample cool-down time, the update usually starts right away.

Make sure the battery is sufficiently charged, so either drive it for a while or set it up on a trickle charger

Try a short drive and park on even surface. Then start diagnostic mode with car off by pressing the start stop button three times with foot off of brake. Then try going to the software update screen.

I'm in the same boat as you, stuck on 11/2022.63. says no update available despite me checking through iDrive, and the myBMW app every week or so. Mine is an 840GC.

I heard from a tech that RSU may not install updates if certain fault codes are stored. If this is true, maybe try using bimmerlink and clear fault codes.

I'm in the same boat. The software downloaded and preparations are complete but it doesn't do the update. I'm curious to see if anybody else was able to force it to complete. I have a 2019 Z4 and this happened when the last update came through earlier in the year. I eventually took it to the dealer and they ran the update there. It was still under warranty at the time but has since expired. I'm not taking it in since they'll try to charge me for a simple click of a button. Plus I'm hoping to buy an 850 later this year.

I'd still like to get the update to complete. I've tried driving it on log trips to charge the battery and no luck. I've currently got it on a trickle charger to see if that helps but I'm not holding my breath, I tried that earlier this year and it didn't work.

Someone here mentioned putting it in diagnostic mode but I don't see any faults and I'm not sure what to do after it's in diagnostic mode to get the update to start.

I saw a comment on another board that there could be some level setting preventing it from completing. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer purposely changed that setting to force me to bring it in.

Diagnostic mode is basically like accessory mode for other cars. You can go to the update screen and see if it allows you to start the update. Also try putting the parking brake on.

Welcome to mine and lots of others worlds! I'm waiting for my 3rd update to decide to install, been waiting since last November and 2 previous updates never installed (07-22 in November and then 11-22 in February) and now with 03-23.
I use my car regularly, had it on my c-tek trickle charger, rebooted, updated apps etc etc and nothing!
I refuse to take it to the dealer for just a software update outside of its required servicing!
Have complained to connected drive at how crap BMW OTA are! They said take it to the dealer and i said nope! get a mobile tech out to me... still waiting!

Lots of info in this thread:

Was having the same issue and resolved it by taking my GC to the dealer when bringing it in for a necessary recall/minor night vision problem.

All good now; but this RSU glitch should indeed be resolved - it doesn't work well.

I'm sure your comment about them sending a mobile tech was tongue in cheek.

I suggest at some point you get your car to a dealer before they tell you the software upgrade is at your expense. Must be some condition(s) in your car preventing the upgrade from starting. Let them handle the upgrade and you'll have even a newer version as they should now be installing a 7/2023.xx version.

I’m tired of these over the air updates

Leave me alone!

I want a car that never gets updates—ever

It seems like everything around me gets updating. The computer at work (and it only makes things worse and more annoying) my phone, my tablet, and now my car. It’s a scam.

Thank Lord RevhighMet, the God of sports cars that I worship, that my R8 never has updates. Just start the engine and go!

Seems owning anything VW group avoids OTA software upgrades. At least all I've come across. Even a 2023 Q8 my friend owns says it supports OTA updates but there's never anything released. And, even if there was an update the MMI system says it requires a USB thumb drive to execute.

battery level and faults

I picked up a vlink bluetooth adapter to read the battery and codes. The battery was at 87% which I have to believe is enough. I'm going to put an agm charger on to see if I can get it to 100%.

It found a bunch of random faults. I attached the list. I wonder if that could be the problem. Unfortunately, I can't clear them without paying $40 for the app. Anybody know of a free or much lower priced app that will clear codes? I can't justify paying $40-50 for an app I'll use once and not even be sure if it'll resolve the problem.

I'm on my second go around with the 11/2022.60 OTA upgrade. The 1st sat in the car for 2+ months. Would get the update ready to install after engine cool down, etc. However, next time in the car no OTA install prompt like previously. The OTA vaporized from the car a few weeks back as I had notifications from the MyBMW app I needed to download, etc. or it was expiring. I laughed as auto downloaded (my setting in the app) and uploaded to the car 2+ months back.

To my surprise while on a drive I had iD7 search for an update. I expected 03/2023 but nope it found 11/2022.60. So once again that triggered the download to the MyBMW app and it's been on the car for about 3 weeks now. I have suspected the battery level (which I don't know for sure as not a simple gauge anywhere in iD7 to tell me the voltage). Hence, picked up a NOCO Genius 10 and have had it charge then trickle the AGM battery. For grins put it in Lithium mode and let it do the same. Still no OTA install.

I may end up buying the CTEK lithium charger as according to the manual it starts out at 13.8V and the TIS for the M850i says anything over 14 will be clamped by the BSM in regards to the lithium battery. The NOCO manual clearly states it starts at 14.4V so hence may not be doing anything for the Lithium battery whatsoever.

yes it was tongue in cheek to a point!

My point is an OTA is just a simple SW update and why should i have to spend my time having to run around to get sorted when it should just work?
I'm out of warranty (19MY car) so anything will be at my expense anyway.
I get it that there could be a problem that I'm not aware of, i use my car regularly for long journeys so it doesn't sit idle much.

So I have hooked my car up to my ctek charger (multi xs 3600 model) and when connected to the main point under the hood it charges but doesn't seem to get to 'float' status (green led) even after a few days?
I connected it directly to battery in the engine bay (auxiliary?) and that does go to float status (green led) after a few hours?
Not sure if there is an issue with the other battery?

I do have ctek lithium charger model i use for lithium batteries on my motorbikes. Can you use this on the bmw?

It’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve seen. An OTA service that cannot complete an install? We are surrounded by devices and apps that update themselves all the time. Including ones from tiny companies. But BMW cannot get a software update to work remotely? Without owners having to follow arcane instructions including lights off, parking brake on, flat surface, open view to the sky, turn around thrice with your eyes closed while chanting to the gods?

I’ve been stuck on 11/2022.60 uploaded to the car and waiting to be “notified when the upgrade can be installed” for months. Dealer says to bring it in. Ok fine, but why lie to me about OTA updates in the first place?

The AGM battery on a car with a smart alternator is not supposed to be at 100%. 87% is actually pretty high. Not uncommon to be in the high 70s, ore even less sometimes.

Thanks. That confirms my problem isn't the battery.

Is there a reason everyone on here wants the updates? Are there some awesome features that get enabled with the newest software?
I have the 11/22 version and don't really care to update except apparently I have to to get my digital key to work
