Red Start/Stop Button
While not for everyone, I feel the Red Start/Stop button adds a nice subtle touch of interior style (thanks Ben @ http://www.rgsportshop.com/index.php...roduct_id=1272). This inexpensive mod is way easy using the sticky putty method. Takes all of 5 minutes to complete.
1. Lightly warm factory Start/Stop button area with hair dryer or heat gun (on low setting), 2. Warm sticky putty in hands to soften, 3. Press sticky putty over surface of factory Start/Stop button and form small cone to grab on to later, 4. Let sticky putty set for about 5 minutes to firm, 5. Quickly pull cone of putty and factory Start/Stop button easily comes off, 6. Line up colored replacement button and press gently until it snaps in place, 7. Test and enjoy |

I don't know what others are pricing this at, but I assume it can't be higher than Amazon - for $13.99 it's cheap! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Yes, you can get it cheaper on ebay for about $2-$8, but I didn't want to wait 2 weeks to get it. Then again, I'm sure someone is trying to sell these for $30-40. They're all the same...
And I compared this to my OEM button, identical! and yes, use the sticky stuff - I didn't warm anything up beforehand (didn't know to) and it still only took about 3 tries to yank the button off - and no damage. So certainly no need at all to remove the button assembly to do this as I've seen on youtube. |

Where can I find a putty/adhesive that will work to pull this button? I see the limited options at Lowes and the Depot but they look like poster putty...

Hey, I also have a BMW G30 and I purchased the crystal one off someone and I can not remove the OEM one, so you are saying that I have to apply some heat to the OEM one then I can put a bit of hot glue with a bolt and then it comes off? I have tried pulling it with a suction cup for about 10 minutes but nothing. Thanks!

Reviving this old thread. Just ordered the red start button from the Amazon link above that states it fits perfect.
Wondering if anyone can share experiences on removal? I think I am going to make a loop of gorilla tape and try to pop it out. Wondering if the heat is completely necessary? I have a heat gun, just dont want to melt anything. |
