840i Economy
Hi all,
I'm thinking of chopping in my G20 3 for an 840i GC - can I ask anyone that has this engine in their 8 what fuel economy you're getting on a run? Is 35-36 MPG out of the question? Cheers |

I've seen 32mpg on a long freeway drive. Right now the car is predicting 24mpg for the next tankful. (840iX GC)

Definitely not out of the question on a long run.
I will check mine tomorrow and let you know, but it is sufficiently economical, I don’t even check it...

My car is still pretty new so the engine is still loosening up but I’ve averaged over 35mpg over the past 400 miles which has included a mix of motorway driving and country roads. I’m pleasantly surprised as I only averaged 38mpg in the S350d Mercedes I drove previously.

Clearly very speed dependent, but I can get to around 40mpg (UK mpg!) on a run when driving at around the speed limit. Even rather faster than this it only drops to mid to low 30s on a run. It is a surprisingly efficient car. Shorter journeys do affect this, but my long term average is around 30mpg (vs about 38mpg for my previous 335d).

Holy mackerel I can't drive it slowly enough to see that kind of mileage. Upper 20's is common at 80 mph plus. Or so I'm told.

100 mile round trip to Cambridge from North London on the A1M averaged 39mpg. But driving in London during peak hours I average 21-23mpg but then my average speed is only 12mph.

I usually get 43/44/45 (uk) on a 220 mile largely motorway run very early Sunday when the roads are empty and adaptive cruise set at 70mph. The same journey on my old 330i would get mid 50s mpg.
High 20s running around locally. I do have a light right foot…. |

Exactly what I get - very impressed by the B58’s all round abilities. My GC is slightly less frugal than my coupe, but it’s 70Kg heavier.
