Exhaust note button

Had a quick questions. In my M8GC just curious if this Exhaust Note Button actually works for the exhaust. I was told that its actually a sound that in enhanced through the speakers and not the actual exhaust itself. Just curious if anyone had concrete details on how this "Exhaust Button" works. I tried testing it out with the windows down and honestly I don't hear much of a difference from outside. You would think that that button opens the valves or something of that nature. Any insight would be appreciated.

it is not sound enhancement through the speaker but it actually opens and closes the valves but as mentioned above that only works in sports and sports plus mode ( engine setting ) and you wouldn't notice difference in comfort mode

You're right I did some more digging and testing. It does open the valves and the note does change. BUT I did find out that there is also some sound enhancement through the speakers as well. Due to the cabin being so well insulated they pipe fake exhaust noise through the speakers as well. Not sure if I like that too much. Anyone know if there is a way to disable that option and still be able to engage the actual exhaust using the button?

I used BimmerCode to disable it in my cabin.
