2020 840i GC  [0.00]
Used for 6 months. Works great. Trading in 840 GC on a X5 M50i (due end of March)

Retails for $799 (has the app control)

Adds 75hp and 73 lb-ft

Harness may need small repair- appears to have a small tear in the cable casing -
Hasn't effected performance or usability.

Currently, Will only work on 840i; ***however, you can send back to RaceChip- they will send you a new one and new harness for a fee $50-100 I believe (?) if you have an M850 or M8

Asking $400 OBO + shipping.

It's keyed to the VIN, isn't it?

I own no garage queens. If it's in my driveway, it's been ridden hard and put away wet. ...and now, with a light crust of Maine road salt.

If it is I imagine RaceChip can key to a new one.

No, RC is not keyed to the VIN--- but the programming is fixed for the car it was intended for.

EG: I moved my RC from my F90 M5 to my F93 M8 and had it reprogrammed. Since the boost levels are different on the Comp car vs the First Edition.

Six of one; half of twelve.

Works out to the same thing: To use this on a different VIN, more money must be paid to the company. That's what I was trying to clarify.

Does the unit need to be shipped back to the maker for reprogramming, or can you download the binary and reprogram it yourself?

When I moved from my Range Rover to my 840 they had me pay $50 including shipping- sent it back they sent me a reprogrammed unit and correct harness.

Not sure what it would be a second time (or for a non original owner).

Can't imagine it would be vastly different or vastly more expensive for an M850 or M8

Incorrect---if you have the same car the vin is a moot point. My example was between two different engines (CE is not a base in regards to Boost limits). My M8 is a CE and my F90 was not--- thus reprogramming. Hope that adds clarity.

So if you have the same car as he does you wont need to reprogram it-Race Chip doesnt know VIN's.

Adding the US retailer Ben for more clarity

Exactly.
It doesn't ties down to the VIN.
Only the warranty is ties down to the VIN.
The programming is not.
As long as they are the same car and engine, then it is a straight swap.

Is this something that would need to be removed prior to taking it in for service?

Absolutely but it takes all of 5 minutes to remove and then reinstall after.

Its still an engine mod and if a tech really wanted to dig, he/she would know about its install thru data review of the boost bumps. Unlikely, yes--- probable, no. I have had 4 services performed with the RC (took off on all 2 S63tu cars) with zero issues.

Ok, thanks. Let me do more research and I'll reach out if it's not already gone by then.
