Sounded like there was a crest which offloaded the suspension and made it easy to over speed the corner. That's a sick feeling.

Ouch, even has the dude's name. Reports seem to say we was walking around unscathed afterwards, but I hope he had track insurance! Although, when I looked at it for an event I went to, it came with a $900 premium for 2 days and 20% deductible for the M8. It was about the same rate at 3 different companies. I figured if I caused more than $30k worth of damage at a track at speed, my life insurance policy may be taking over anyway (whether from the crash or from my wife)...

Doh! That's a shame. Glad he's ok though

I'm kind of surprised that the impact with hay bales was enough to deploy the airbags.

You know you should have bought an M8 and few driving lessons!

He was wobbling in every turn and way too much on the throttle going into turns, that's why he kept going straight on the crash turn.

Why would you track this car? Obviously he's got stock tires, suspension, etc. I get wanting to go fast. Back in high school I had an 81 Z-28 that I had up to 147, couldn't get to 150 due to a hood scoop that was loose. No air bags, no seat belt usage (that's how old I am). But I did this on a straight away. Same with my 6 series. I've had it up to 130 on the interstate but it was a straight road and no traffic.

Yeah, In college I had my 1990 Z Twin Turbo at 162 at 2am in the interstate, and no airbags. What an idiot.

It's the Goodwood festival of speed event, not a track day. It's an annual demonstration hill climb in front of tens of thousands of spectators. An opportunity for car manufacturers to show off their new wares. This would have been a professional racing driver, not an amateur, in an official dealer car. Track is dusty and very bumpy.
There is also kudos for being fastest up the hill. A recipe for disasters like this
