Snow Tire question
Oddball question...
So for the M8 there appears to be no all-season tire option and only a single snow tire option with the Pirelli Sottozero II's. At least with the stock rim setup. I prefer staggered over square setups for snow and have done so for many years. While the Sottozero II's are OK I found that the Sottozero 3's work much better. Of course they aren't available in the sizes needed except if I were to go with Sottozero3 run flats in front and regular in the rear. Thread pattern appears identical. Stupid idea? Best tire choice? |

Did you explore other winter tires, whether run flat or go flat?
I would suggest to choose the best winter tire for the climate and then select a separate set of wheels for winter driving. |

I ended up ordering a set of Sottozero II's after being advised against mixing up RF/non RF Snows. If I get wheels, it'll be likely for summers and keep the snows on the stock rims. Thanks! |

I usually just go with the BMW winter package. I find that selling the factory winter package when not needed is actually very easy and I do well with it. Factory wheels that are unmarked and not damaged sell very easily, both locally and on the forums. Especially for SUVs, less so for cars and coupes but they all sell.

Out setup has worked great for the last two winters in MN. A state with a more cold temps, ice and snow than anywhere in the UK. |

Ok, that is, the front should be done without approval and the rear with Porsche approval and drive - In BMW Poland I got information about how to put on 20 winter tires, I kill the guarantees: /

Not sure about the Sottozero, but the Alpin N-mark tires were directional in the back and the regulars were asymetrical in the front when I was looking. Assuming that's the same case here, with the fronts moving water differently than the rears, there should at least be some additional inherent traction difference front to back, but we're talking about a car with a staggered setup anyway, so you would expect that and it's arguable whether that it's really worse. You'll see many P-cars or others with wider rears running this way even on their summer tires.

I checked them and they are exactly the same And they are excellent with no traction issues at all And to be honest they hook better then my michellin summer ps4s (given my car is tuned) |

I tried to get Alpins for my M8 last year, but the best I could have done size-wise would have given me the different tread pattern in the rear, so I opted for the Sottozero again, albeit a series II. I did have a bit of a traction scare on a damp road with 50 degree tire and 30 degree air temps with the Sottozero, but I blame myself for pushing it a little too hard for those conditions given the numbness of the M8, especially with it being new to me at the time. It wasn't anything serious at that, just a little oversteer I was able see but not feel at 90+ around a slight bend through a rock cut that made me check my pants.
