Why do these vehicles garner so much attention?

Having owned many high-end marques over the years, short of my previous F-cars, the 8 really gets lots of looks/attention on the road and it's kept at our second home where there's plenty of other h/e vehicles roaming around every day. I'm assuming it's b/c there are so few on the road (at least one benefit from poor sales lol)...are you guys getting the same reaction?

yes, I get a lot of attention in my m850i, but I'm sure 25-50% of that is because it's a convertible in a land of big SUVs, and because I have a 2 year old in the backseat.

Yes. I've not seen another 8 on the road anywhere yet. Lots of comments at the service station and thumbs up especially other BMW drivers on the road....

In the past year I have only encountered one M850i convertible on the streets. Ironically given the sighting has been on my commute to work I found out that the owner works at my company but is based out of corporate building about a 1/4 mile from mine. Truth be told the discovery was made as I made my way through that location's parking lot into the building for a meeting that was held there. Needless to say I did a bit of gawking during the discovery.

Wind the clock forward to this week in which I once again encountered the M850i convertible on my drive to work. The difference being is that for the first time I was in my M850i coupe and obviously there was instant recognition on his part as I'm sure he was surprised to see another M850i/M8 on the road.

In the 3 weeks I had the 840 Gran Coupe in Chicago I only saw 1 other one on the street. The car got more looks than anything I've driven outside of the i8 and my old Campagna T-Rex.

Thumbs up

Rarity no doubt. In fact... I remember when my friend owned a 850csi back in the day and everywhere we went heads would turn!
Not this car but looked just like it:

I have always believe a nice 2 Door GT to be among the sexiest vehicles on the road!

My experience exactly (outside of prev F cars). For more of an apples-apples, both of my previous S550 coupes (brilliant silver with bengal red int and amg app pkg) did get attention but it's nothing like this. Maybe in my case the white/black wheel/carbon roof combo makes it really pop? On one hand kinda wish it wasn't so much, yet on the other I do appreciate others find it so intriguing to look at.

My car is still being built/shipped, but I would suspect I'll get a similar reaction. Currently I'm the only person that has an M8 in my area of the state
