Hey All!

Just picked up this CPO M8 ($84,900 with 17,643 miles with a $142 MSRP—looks basically brand new), and figured I’d introduce myself.

First order of business is swapping in some CF parts. How hard is it to install the CF side grille?

And any insight on the various maintenance packages available from BMW/upgrading the CPO warranty? How much is the maintenance on the car and what am I in for for the next 50K miles? I know I can (and have) read the manual, but personal knowledge is always nice.

I’m coming from an i4 M50. That car was fun to a degree, but it has nothing on this. ICE cars will forever dominate over EVs in terms of driving dynamics. Nothing beats shifting gears at redline from a driver’s perspective. And the sound of the S63 is otherworldly. I am surprised how loud the car is stock from the outside. In terms of performance, the M50 actually might have been faster from 30-70, but by 80 the M8 would be reeling the M50 in like it was standing still. This thing is a rocket ship on the top end.

Pics or it didn’t happen.

Welcome and congrats on the new 8!

Sorry, I have no clue on how hard it is swapping out the parts, though

Welcome and the parts you want to swap are pretty easy and straight forward. You should be some plastic pry tools and blue painters tape to protect the car as you swap parts but other than that you are good to go.

Front grille swap is tricky as the clips on the side are really difficult to get any leverage on - took about 40 mins all in all on mine, just be very careful with the camera as the wire is very short.

Top panel has to come off to access but that’s just on push clips and they’re all easy to spot.

Thanks for the replies!

It’s definetly in good shape, I think (hope). Drive after signing the papers in 120 degree heat across state lines for 6 hours resulted in no issues. And the interior is pristine!

I’ll be sure to get some tools for the installs. The grille seems like a bigger hassle than on my first bmw 435i. I had a friend just yank the grille in and out in 5 minutes lol.

I’m going to take the M8 to get a detail on Tuesday. Stay tuned for those pics!

Had a chance to rip it to 140 and it’s insane how quick the car gets there. The launch is also much faster than the m50. Overall, insane beast of a car. already thinking about a Carbahn Stage 2 package lol

Congrats and enjoy the beautiful beast. Irony on a separate thread there was some back and forth on an EV/hybrid mix up for the potential replacement to the current 8 series. ICE all the way or I have zero interest and one question was "what is ICE?". Made me LOL and now you have it and enjoy it as honestly it's a dying breed. 👍

I have the little brother aka a M850i but built to my absolutely desired specs. I've hit 143 (according to the HUD) before letting off the gas. Yes, that is gas and long live ICE as there is no comparison if one desires a car with soul (engine/exhaust) sound vs just pure soulless speed. 😜

ICE will always beat EV in terms of driving dynamics! Some pics from the detail today. I just found out the car is also PPF cleared from the detailer. Awesome little value add.

Unfortunately, I noticed my passenger’s side door stopped locking/unlocking. And the M8 trim on the passenger’s side is missing. Time to use my warranty. Anyone else had these issues?

Congrats on the car! I love that blue. I had one but it got totaled in an accident and I replaced it with red. But I still love that blue.

If you’re thinking about Carbahn Stage 2, I am looking to sell my Stage 2 Performance Controller. PM me if you’re interested. Carbahn insists you install their heat exchangers with the stage 2 but you can purchase that separately from them (I’m keeping mine on my car for a custom tune).

Is your car a 2020 or 2021 or newer. I ask because 2020 can do Carbahns DME tune that’s better than their controller tune.

Also, Carbahn offers warranties that cover tunes. Tunes void parts of BMW warranties so if you’re thinking about getting any kind of extended warranty and a tune, why not get one that isn’t voided by the time. Just additional fyi.

Thanks I’m happy with the price for sure! The M8 cost a few thousand more than the M50 and it’s in a different league!

It’s a 2020, so I will probably go with a Carbahn tune. Not sure if I want to get the power pack and go for stage 1 or stage 2.

Stage 1 is around 850 crank hp and if I can get that without any hardware then that seems to be the most cost effective approach. The power pack adds some hardware components but I feel like they are unnecessary. Not sure though…

I'd say just enjoy it stock for now and maybe consider extended warranty just to keep yourself covered?

RG Sports can help or IND or RW Carbon
Everything is pretty easy to remove and replace. You’ll feel like it’s gonna snap but work it gently and it’ll come right off

Get rid of the chrome kidney grille first. This is an M8 not a M8C so they put chrome on the m8. Delete all of the chrome. The color you have is 🔥🔥🔥

You are right. Thing is already a monster and it’s not boost weather yet. I can’t imagine what this thing will do when it’s cold outside.

As an aside, I love the HUD in M Mode. Given how fast the S63TU rips through gears 1 and 2, sometimes I feel the digital tach can’t keep up. The HUD is perfect though.

BMW wants $7K to extend the warranty till January 2027. I feel like that’s a decent deal on this car. On my 435I I paid 3K for a one year extension, so this seems about right.

When I purchased I was told that on M cars BMW could refuse to extend the warranty. I thought that was a sales tactic. It looks like it was because I can purchase the extended warranty right now online straight from BMW. Hopefully I’m not wrong and can extend the warranty in a year for two more years.

Thanks for the recommendation! Was looking for something like RG Sports. Maybe I can just take a drive out there, buy some CF parts, and then go hit Irwindale lol.

Thanks for the compliment on the color! It’s honestly what sold me on this over the M8C. The M8Cs in this price range had less miles but they were not CPO and a variation of red or grey.

And yes, that chrome grille needs to go!

What a beautiful color. What is it? Matches brakes and laser lights. That amber has to go tho

Where did you end up finding this deal? Az?
Is it easy and fast to switch between comfort and sport + on a non comp?

It’s Marina Bay Blue Metallic. Yes, for sure I need to paint match the amber lights! Such a simple but effective mod.

And yes, found the deal in AZ. There’s basically no certified Ms in my area.

And yeah I think it’s pretty easy. The setup button allows quick changes to all the settings. It would be easier to have a “comfort” “sport” buttons but I’m not complaining I love this engine too much lol
