I’m still fighting issues with my battery dying if I keep the car unlocked for several hours. If I lock it, it’s fine….even if it sits for days.

I took it to the dealer who claimed they ran tests and they said the battery drained because I parked the car in neutral. My driveway has an incline so I am for certain I’ve never done that.

What could be going on? This just started a month or so ago. I feel a lot of times my car won’t turn off even after I open the door like it’s supposed to. I also feel some sort of independent ventilation might be causing that but I don’t have that option activated on my app or on the car…

I also notice my heat/AC fan sometimes will keep turning back on immediately after I turn it off. Again, I feel this has to be some setting somewhere but I don’t have any of this activated.

Why don't you just lock it? Seems like a simple solution

Just shooting off the wall here but are both of your key fobs outside of the car?? I've ran into something like that on an older ride of mine where the wife's key fob fell out of her purse into the forbidden zone on all cars and we had no Idea....

I also believe electronics stay on if weight is detected in the passenger seat and the passenger door hasn’t opened. It’s happened to me when I had something heavier in the seat and I got out with the informatics still on (music, etc.). Do you keep something there? Maybe a faulty seat sensor?

Yes it does drain the battery overtime. These cars have so much electronics that are constantly sucking power from the battery. I timed it once on my 7 series for curiosity, the electronics stayed on for 15 minutes maybe a bit longer before the main components shuts off. When I wash the car, the first thing I do is shut the car off and press the power button until everything shuts off and leave the key in the car so it would not lock and open as I'm spraying water.

The same with the stupid auto/stop feature, every time you stop and the car shuts off, it's sucking the hell out of the battery with the radio, AC and everything else is running. We had to change the battery on my wife's 2022 MDX after 2years (15K/km) because of this stupid feature and Honda would not cover the cost of the battery even thus they know the cause and the car is under full warranty. She went through five MDXs before the 2022, the last one she owned it for 9 years with 160K/km and when she traded it, it had the original battery!

My two cents! Lock the car and save yourself the headaches...

No, sometimes I leave the key in the car. This has never been any different in any car or BMW I’ve ever owned….that shouldn’t be causing a battery to die in hours.

Yeah but this isn’t something new with BMW. They always have waited 15-20 minutes to power down after. It’s never been an issue before.

I leave mine unlocked because my Durango Magnaflow exhaust at start up sets off the M8 alarm. I have had unlocked for over a week and started up fine after. I think leaving it locked would drain more with the flashing red light by rear view mirror

I've had mine locked for over a week before with no issue. Fob in a faraday box 20 feet away.
All good.
