Thanks. I certainly do care about that, but one other element is driving comfort. That's probably ranked as 1st or 2nd on my priority list. Everything else you mentioned is still on my priority list for sure (just by considering the M8 or M850 it goes without saying that those are important to me).

The issue that am trying to collect more feedback on (and I appreciate everyone's input) is how much will the comfort be scarified with the M8 Comp compared to the M850.
If the M8 Comp is so much stiffer than say a regular M550, then certainly the ride will suck in-town cause that car was barely comfortable compared to the 7-series and S-class.

Another example is the BMW XB7, that car is super sporty but is known to me much more comfortable than the X7 M60. It sounds like this is not how it goes for the 8-series. The higher you go on the sportiness lineup, the less comfortable it gets.
I guess the B8 is the ideal car for what I need but there is no way on earth I can find that car now in such market. that leaves me stuck between M8 Comp and M850.

I had a similar dilemma and after having test driven both I opted for the M8. Never looked back and it isn't as stiff as people make it out to be. I would say make a plan to test drive both and you can decide.

I would have regretted not buying the M8 had I bought an 850i and drove an M8 after that. But it's my personal opinion. Ride comfort was one of my concerns as well and the M8 does a brilliant job.

You keep referring to it as “stiff” which is why most are directing you to the 850. Most who own an M8 don’t consider the ride stiff. It’s sport. It’s built that way for a purpose. It’s much more compliant than my M3 was or X5M. When I’m looking at the various models - 3, X, 5, 8 I go right for the top as anything else would leave me wanting. Regarding the exhaust that’s an easy $300 fix.

Also, why not just drive them and decide for yourself? Anyone that bought an M8 is going to tell you to buy that and anyone that bought an 850 will tell you to buy that.

Honestly,

At this point, a test drive of both (M8 & M850) is the best answer to all of your questions. 😊

Neither M8 nor M850 drive like M550.
That is 5 series sedan this is 8 series sport.

The closest M8 to where I live is 4 hours away (and it’s sold yesterday, though it was not the one I was considering). The closest M850 is probably 8 hours away : ). I will most likely buy one without test driving it.

Note: I still have another 2020 M8 Comp (expired warranty, 29K miles) that am keeping my on (same interior color). But again I need to wrap my head around suspension stiffness concerns.
This car is beautiful—I like it. And, although CarMax describes it as having HK sound system, looks more to me like it’s B&W (nice). Can’t tell the condition of the exterior, and haven’t seen the Carfax, but price (given mileage and options) seems fair. Good luck.

Also, FWIW, I own an E63S, and find the M850 ride far preferable comfort-wise.

As these cars do not last long! Here today is definitely gone tomorrow…

If you fall in love with one you see listed I suggest you make arrangements to see it asap..

If there's an LCI F90 M5 (so '21+, has to be an LCI) anywhere in driving distance near you, the M8 GC is 9.5/10 of that, it's ever so sliiiightly more smooth than the F90, and I was content with the LCI F90 in this respect. The added rebound tuning in the dampers makes the M8GC the same but just the tiniest bit better, and why it wins my smoothest of the current true M car sedans award on that front.

It still sounds like you're looking for my past C8 RS6 in Dynamic level of comfort tho, which is the M850i in Sport+, it's near wafting level of luxury comfort. That can ruin a car if you're getting more than you bargained for, I again would stick with the M850i and that's as an M8GC owner.

BMW M took that most aggro version of every car and was like, yeah it's not enough, on the M8 trim it adds some extra interior/exterior bits because it's the 8 series, but more than anything it's adding extra firm, tightness, and speed, and if any one of those things doesn't check the boxes, you'll be upset in the true M version.

Also, if you've got brand new M8 GC maxed out spec money to spend, there's better deals to be had in other brands around that price. I actually was dead set on a '23 Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S (so non-hybrid but same 4.0TT V8 making about identical numbers to the M8 GC) w/ 363 miles, listed for $198K they accepted $180K but weren't willing to budge on my X6M trade in value so my current M8 GC won out. Point is that if your price point limit is closer to $200K, I'd at least consider more than an M850i, even if comfort is your primary driver.

My opinion is that the rear leg room looks a bit compromised.

the M8 GC has a more pliant, comfortable ride than the coupe. makes sense since generally speaking, lengthening the wheelbase will do that. if u want comfort, power, and useable backseats, the M8 GC could very well fit the bill.

or the M850 GC if you don’t think you’ll miss the sharpness of the M.

Are you sure? Even with a moderately positioned passenger seat? Looked reasonable for an 8 year old.
I have just noticed that my post said ‘couple’ rather than ‘coupe’ due to autocorrect (niw amended) ……the point I was trying to make is that the coupe is quite tight in the rear so if carrying rear seat passengers is something you do I would make sure you are happy with the legroom…even for an eight year old!

If rear seat room is an issue, the gran coupe (M850i pictured) will solve that problem. But of course, is a larger car with its extended wheelbase and length.

Yup. I have two kids, and we put them in the back of the coupe one day when we happened to be at the dealership, and even just being average-sized at age 5 and 9, it didn’t work at all (im 6 ft). Plus they hated the way they had to get in and out. Doesn’t mean it won’t work for your purposes, but they aren’t much more useable than the 911’s “rear seats” lol. Definitely recommend actually trying it out.

A lot of good information from everyone…

As for going the GC route, yes, the back seat will be far more roomier / comfortable for passengers (or a good size dog) especially when getting in/out.

You would also gain two rear USB ports, rear climate controls, a center fold down armrest with cup holders, rear heated seats and I believe sunshades.

Just be aware that it’s about 10” longer and heavier than the Coupe and fitment (lengthwise) in some garages could be challenging.

She’s a very long car at around 200” in GC trim! 😂

It’s pretty huge. It’s on my shortlist to replace the F90, and it would *barely* fit in my garage if I get one lol

Considering an M8. Your post prompted me to compare the M8 Comp coupe's dimensions to those of my 2023 M2.

The only real difference is length. The M2 is 15 feet long. The M8 is 15.9 feet long. I have the room in my garage but I'll have to back the M8 in just a bit more to ensure the garage door won't close on the nose of the car.

And your post prompted me to compare E92 M3 with G87 M2.
E92 M3 was 181" long and G87 M2 is 180"....
Where are we going with this increasing the size?
Just 10 years ago the F01 7 series was below 200" and today G90 M5 is over 200" long
