Is your car still with you at home, or is it parked at the dealership?

Recall update as of 3.11.16
My local dealer wasn't able to take my '08 e90 in for trade due to the recall. He cited a "sale-hold" status that most dealerships have to abide by.
I checked my vin and got the following message. Also, see the attached recall letter dated 2/12/16. Year: 2008 Make and Model: BMW M3 Sedan February 5, 2016 | Recall Campaign No. 16V-071 DRIVER'S FRONT AIR BAG Status: Remedy not yet available Last Updated: February 12, 2015 DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM During air bag deployment in an accident, the driver's front air bag module may produce excessive internal pressure that could cause the inflator to rupture. SAFETY RISK Inflator rupture could result in metal fragments striking the driver or other passengers, potentially resulting in serious injury or death. DESCRIPTION OF REPAIR Your BMW center will replace the driver's front air bag module. However, due to the large volume of new inflators needed to repair vehicles, the necessary parts will not be immediately available. As a result, owners of affected vehicles will be informed of the recall in an initial notification letter. Once replacement parts become available BMW will send another notification letter to owners, beginning with older model year vehicles located in BMW's previously defined HAH (High Absolute Humidity) region and expanding accordingly as more parts become available. For additional information or assistance, please contact Customer Relations and Services at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com, or at 1-800-525-7417.

I'm shocked there are people who will risk death. I know lots of risks in life, but a safety device shouldn't be one of them.

Well, I had a 2012 M3 coupe. 2 months after picking it up i got into a bad accident. All airbags deployed. I guess mine wasn't faulty It caught me and I literally walked away without a scratch. Car was totaled though

I'm really not sure how long this will take. Dealer doesnt know anything either nor have they got any news. Do you think this will take until the summer or months to get replacement parts for the cars at the dealer so they can sell them? If it takes 2+ months I'm gonna have to go with a different brand since I cant wait that long....

The general consensus I've seen on a few other message boards, and what I was told by my dealer, is that it will be at least 2 *years* for this to be fixed, not months...
And as long as BMW follows government recall guidelines there really is no point in suing. |

Guessing there have been less than 30 deaths caused by the airbags over a few years but over 30,000 die each year in car accidents in the U.S.? If the Takata odds scare you then based on the overall numbers you should never drive any car unless absolutely necessary (regardless of the airbags). EDIT from a quick search - http://richmond.legalexaminer.com/de...aths-mounting/ Quote:
http://www.nsc.org/NSC%20Images_Corp...ng-graphic.jpg Considering lifetime odds of dying in a car accident are 1 in 112 and lifetime odds of dying from contact with bee's, wasps, or hornets is 1 in 55,764, the less than 1 in a million for the airbags doesn't scare me. One more fun fact - Quote:

Can someone please let me know where to find out if my 2016 M3 is affected by this recall? Urgent because my wife drives my children to school and she use it to go to work everyday. Thank you in advance.

Enter either your full VIN or the last 7 of your VIN. You are likely NOT included in this current round (F models have not been added), but you could potentially be added in the future. |

Being able to sell your vehicle is something that falls within the realm of vehicle ownership. I'm sure BMW is doing all they can and I appreciate that. I'm not just trying to make a buck, but if i can't trade in my car for 2 years there is an issue. And if the dealer is telling some to try to get as much as you can on a private party sell and doing the "wink wink" there is an issue.

Just had the recall done for my 2001 e46 325i. Loaner was provided and it took a day to complete the work. This was for the passenger side airbag so I took my sweet time actually bringing it in.

I've been checking the recall system weekly & today my vin popped up... When I went in for my VCG warranty repair on the 29th of February & nothing showed, can anyone explain the reason why the letter is noted on the 5th of February??? will be giving my local dealers a call tomorrow AM.

I spoke to service manager. BMWNA has told service to offer options for those who ask.

And, how many of the human deaths caused by sharks can be attributed to unjust retaliation against us for those shark-coconut fatalities? Finally - for 1000 bonus points - how many coconut deaths are caused by falling sharks or humans? I would expect this number to very high, especially with all the falling sharks during a Shark-nado. |

i was told the complete opposite, & BMWNA basically told me that they don't have anything set it motion as far as giving loaners or arranging rentals for customers affected by this recall
