My February built m850 had a software version of 2019.50, sounded more tamed than the 2019.35 is it possible or is it because my car was still in transport mode, I'd like to know because I might refuse the car due to that. But again I asked the rep to try an x5 m50 which was my other choice and it doesn't even sound like a v8, it has the 07/2020 version.

I'll ask again, does anyone here know if BMW can force an update when in for scheduled maintenance? I would imagine some updates may contain changes that affect vehicle driveability/operation and may be considered safety items and be mandatory, which then may also contain other non-essential incorporated changes.

You can find the iDrive version under Car->General Settings->Remote Software Upgrade.

I have the 03/2020.24 version. No problems with the exhaust. Perhaps the issue is not the original software installed at the factory, but the updates themselves? |

Just using the term one of the posters on the thread said a tech at their dealer stated when they inquired on the debacle. Point taken and from now on I'll refer to it as "asinine neutering of a glorious stock exhaust".

Took mine out for a spirited spin (I'm always in comfort across the board) and still got pops and crackles after getting into upper rpms (not max either)...

Quick update on this.
For some reason I never tried starting the engine in any particular mode, as I didn't realise you could do so. I put it in Sport Plus, and definitely get some burbles when doing so (though not every time). However, whilst in S+ driving around, I'm almost positive I've heard a few, though nothing like as loud as the original one I test drove back in March 19. My OS version remains the same, and have recently checked for updates but none are present. Which is odd in itself, it's Nov 2019.70 but I've seen ones banded around for 03 2020? |

Or is it the word backfire - so would 'controlled exhaust noise' be acceptable? Or is it both words - so would 'random exhaust rumblings' be acceptable? Really want to get it right |

I have a 2021 M850 GC loaner from the dealer right now and this car is actually pretty darn throaty....and this is coming from someone with a F90.
Some of you guys realize you need to go into the car settings and set the engine sound to sport, right? I don't mean the button on the center console but you have to go into IDrive settings. When I got the car, it was in reduced there and I thought "WTF, this car really is too quiet). It wasn't until yesterday I saw that options and it's a totally different car now.

Incidentally, I'm not talking about interior cabin noise that's manufactured. I'm on about the physical feeling of the exhaust burbling. |
