Daily driver with some weekend drag strip action. AWD and like stock driving mannerisms make daily driving a non issue. I daily drove a 1000hp rear wheel drive CTS-V wagon for years without issue. Slapped some winter wheels on it and good to go. If i can’t drive it on a regular basis then it’s not the car for me.

It’s no different then what other platforms do when going aftermarket big frame turbos.

Not with this platform. The O2s are going to go haywire if it's not like an OEM setup with crossed manifold runners.

Ding ding.

Hope your tuner is as experienced as your fabricator seems to be. 🙂

Had a similar run-in with a N63tu Alpina fitted with Vargas S2 S63tu turbos a while back.

Even after making the DMEs remapped to M tables and cross bank mani’s, the o2’s were not having it.

I do wish you a ton of luck though, looking forward to seeing this followed through to the end !

Merge the downpipes with a xpipe and monitor O2 afterwards. Not complicated.

How did you select the turbos and how much work and are you going to have to modify the hood for fit? I have the RK Stage 2 turbos and have been looking to upgrade.

Also, which upgrade are you planning from Pure? I destroyed my stock transmission at 950whp so a necessary investment.

Loving the thread and God speed bbradyc5 on seeing your goal to fruition. I'm conservative so all my brain is telling me is WTF happens from a warranty perspective. 🤣

Shop worked with Garrett directly to decide what size we should go with based on HP goals and fact that it is still intended to be a daily driver. Stock hood closes and clears (just barely), if turbo housing was any larger it wouldn’t work. Pure Drivetrain Stage 2 transmission upgrade along with converter and transfer case being upgraded by them.

Some more progress updates. We are making a big design shift in switching from the Air to Water Intercoolers and going to an air to air setup. This is primarily driven by the much more simpler setup running A2A. Original plans of running an ice tank in the trunk was creating some additional complexity on how not to introduce air into the system and requiring to always having to bleed it. There is a ton of room for a massive A2A intercooler up front (the intercooler brick sized will support 1400+hp). At the end of the day it’s not like many southern parts of the country here where the 90 or even 100 degree weather days are a regular thing. Yes there are pros and cons to both A2A and A2W configurations but simplicity and reliability won out here and we should still be able to pull off a very efficient setup.

Here are some additional fab pics and a few showing the start of the fuel system upgrade plans.

- 3D printed brace with enlarged opening for intake piping. Final parts being machined now
- billet coolant expansion tank
- exhaust modded with custom x-pipe
- Fuel basket hat modified to handle plumbing for new brushless fuel pump and fuel supply lines
- triple split for fuel lines (one for factory DI and two for port injection fuel rails)

The A2W setup with the CSF charge coolers would work just fine, wanting the ability to add an ice tank for track days is the extra level of complexity. If you want to/end up doing a similar full frame turbo setup i have a brand new set of CSF Charge Coolers that were already cut/welded on the outlets that will work perfectly…will cut you a hell of a discount on them 😎. Unfortunately for me just another cost of breaking new ground 🔥 💰

bbradyc5 how are you handling the sensor built into the OEM coolant expansion tank since you are changing the tank to aluminum? This tank has been an issue in the F90 due to leaks.

Yeah the OEM expansion tank is a piece of crap that BMW refuses to fix. They are having a fitting machined, one quick connect for a hose and one for a threaded BMW style level sensor.

I would really appreciate if you can keep us informed of how that part and sensor works. I have a M8 Coupe headed to Brunswick and the threads on this expansion tank both here and on the M5 board are really dispiriting.

No problem, once they have fittings on there an completed I’ll share some info. If BMW doesn’t finally fix this properly then replacing with a billet tank is the way to go. We didn’t have a choice as the OE tank wouldn’t clear turbo plumbing.
