Well, "She" is a She and I highly doubt she was driving defensively like we all do. Probable just rolling down the road talking on the phone like my girlfriend.

For those with all season procontact continentals oem rft - within the idrive setting do you leave it on the "winter/all year" setting? with ">100"?

Saw there was setting for "summer" and "winter/all year".

I think that's what I did. I'll have to check tomorrow.

At first I liked the Continentals, not so much anymore. They give-up too quickly for my taste. Ill definitely be switching to Michelins when these wear out.

Literally, 140 miles into my 300-mile drive home from delivery, I unavoidably hit a pothole and bubbled the left front tire. I had to spend $450 to replace it the next day.

I am not unhappy with the Bridgestone’s, but if I get more than 10k miles out of them, I will be shocked. At that point I will likely replace them with Michelin non-runflats.
I have the same exact set up as you do. I agree they ride great and seem sticky. Most reviews show this tire is 10k-15K tread life.

My Explorer has the DWS 06. it’s a great all season tire: quiet, smooth, excellent wet and light snow as well as dry. I think it’s a 50K warranty tire.

Checked today. That's what I have entered; winter/all-seasons & >100mph. IIRC, the pressures were 49 front & 51 rear. I run a couple pounds less.

I have these, also in California. I’ve taken the car up to Tahoe with them. I can verify they’re not great in snow. Kind of the minimum passable. I’m not sure if it’s the car or the tires, but the M550i with the contis is nowhere close to as good in the snow as the 328ix I had before. I don’t remember what tires it had other than that they were also all-season.

I’ve read some guys put the car in eco plus mode in the snow to reduce the torque. That would be a big difference between the 550 and 328. Not sure if the weight would help or hurt.

It would help for sure and I likely will use eco pro the next time I drive in snow. The scariest moment I had was fishtailing in the parking lot at < 10mph, hitting the gas just a little too hard in comfort, in my first few months of owning the car. I was gentle but not gentle enough. I’d rate myself as very experienced with winter driving. But the M550’s torque is brutal.

I don’t think it’s the only difference though. It feels (a lot) more rear biased. The 3er was an amazing winter car. I’ve been in situations with that car where multiple accidents were unfolding in front of me and I didn’t have a worry in the world. It was very surefooted, and I never even used winter tires.

I’m at just over 8,400 miles (about 40% highway) on my M550 with the original factory Bridgestone S007 summer non-run flats 20” 668M wheels. Depths are at 3mm rear and 4mm front.

The S007’s are great tires in warm temperatures and provide excellent ride and grip. The negative is they wear fast and bubble easily. The performance degrades quickly as they wear, and they are awful in cold temperatures.

I live in northern CA where the winter temps typically range from the mid 30’s to the 60’s. It rarely gets below freezing. The summer performance S007’s become very unhappy below 50 degrees and can become almost dangerous, especially in cold rain.

I hit some uneven pavement on the freeway on Tues. and bubbled the right front tire. This is the second bubbled tire since I took delivery Feb. '22.

I am considering replacing all 4 tires with the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. They are classified as ultra-high performance all season.

Does anyone have experience with the Michelin Pilot AS4’s on the M550?

plus wider tires do worse in the snow

My SA told me today that going from RF to non RT on an xDrive car can kill the transfer case. Anyone know of this?

He says if an M550 is ordered from factory with non RF, it’s somehow setup different for that purpose.

That doens't make any sense to me. Even the wheels are reportedly the same now, so one can change from RFs to non-RFs, which is what I'd probably do right away. I noticed the new G60 (only 530 on configurator now) no longer offers RFs, so good riddance.

I’ve had the Michelin Sport AS4, Continental DWS 06 Plus and Goodyear F1 Supercar 3 and 3R on a Shelby Mustang and/ Or Explorer Platinum. The Michelin seems to be the best all around tire with the DWS 06+ a close second for A/S ultra high performance.

The Goodyear 3 is very similar to the S007 however, the 3R is a great track tire more in line with the Michelin Sport Cup 2. The Michelin SC2 seems to the better track tire by a smidgeon, but the 3R cost is much less for the better bang.

I have time, so I’ll research more. He also didn’t know all G30 550 were xDrive. Nice guy and superb service. Love him. Just not convinced he knows the model well. I put on Pirelli P7 AS a few months ago. I know people crap on Pirelli on here a lot but I’ve been very pleased early in their life, so far.

I have a 19" Staggered set-up with Michelin Primacy 3 Run Flats. I really like them and I've gotten anywhere from 23k-25k miles out of the rears. Which I think is pretty good for run flats and not being able to rotate my tires. I've driven in heavy rain and light snow with no problems at all. They grip well, are quiet, and the run flats have saved my a$$ twice. Got screws in my tires, lost all air pressure, two separate times and was able to drive to my tire shop and get them plugged. I'm about to replace my rears again and will probably get the Primacy 3's again. I've heard good things about Michelin PS4 ZP's though.

Ive got the GoodYear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical Run-Flats with 20" staggered wheels. Very stiff ride and I can feel every bump in the road it seems like. I am babying the shit out of the car right now as I just bought it, 2021 CPO 540, and dont want to have to replace tires or wheels right away. I open her up and drive her aggressive on newly paved highway roads but right now on backroads or anywhere near construction I drive very slow. Will make a decision on what im going to do moving forward once I have inevitably change tires due to pot holes.

I hated the Goodyear Eagle Sport AS RF. Enjoying the Pirelli AS RF much more. Won’t go back to Goodyear. Would eventually like to try Michelins.
