SWA, more than any other airline, is a flying bus. On time and moderately ok for mass transit.
Jet Blue, Virgin America...they're like Uber Black. Frontier and Spirit is like taking the subway at 2am through Murderville. |

Landed early, but it does us no good since SWA is just as incompetent as AA when it comes to gate management. So now we sit within sight of two open gates while waiting for an occupied gate to clear.

1) Virgin hardly flies anywhere from multiple cities. 2) Most of their flights are 2-3 hrs and go to shitty destinations like Boston, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and DC. 3) Jet Blue...same thing. 4) Service doesn't really matter on a 2hr flight and Virgin isn't that great. 5) They're partnered with Delta, perhaps the shittiest airline. 6) Their routes and flight times suck. Anyone who actually travels a lot can tell you that you essentially can't avoid American and United unless you want to go out of your way. The only flights with any decent service or frankly, where service even matters are international flights. I'm more interested in nonstop options and being on time. Virgin is just as late as any other airline...I've flown them to California several times, all shitty. Emirates, Lufthansa, and Singapore have the best service and actually fly where you might want to go. And as crappy as American is, at least there is nonstop service to a TON of locations FROM a ton of locations. Virgin might be great, but it's too hard to get anywhere because the options are so limited. Last edited by BayMoWe335; 11-09-2015 at 01:34 PM.. |

Bullshit. They fly out of Long Beach, which is one of the better regional airports. Quote:

That isn't bullshit. If you are flying regionally and locally all the time, more power to you, but again...doesn't really matter on a 2hr flight. I've flown Virgin and find them just like any other airline for Intercontinental flight. American is shitty, but unless it's international, flying is a commodity now. Virgin has FEW options internationally. I guess you like them because they fly to the few destinations you go? Then fine. |

I feel just fine in them and I'm not giant, by any means, but I'm not the smallest guy in the plane, either.

I disagreed, saying while Newark may be shitty, it's convenient, which makes it less than shitty. Also, Jet Blue flies out of Long Beach which is the best regional airport for us. No big deal... |

Now it's understandable that people are more fussy about reclining because you don't have as much space as you used to. But as long as the seats recline, I'll be reclining.

SW - although I've never done it, but I feel is very similar to cattle calling - where they line up the herd to be funneled into the slaughterhouse... You couldn't pay me to take SW / Frontier / Spirit... Alaskan Airlines however is nice... JB isn't doing to well financially and Virgin found a way to make cheaper flights more posh... I don't know why our domestic flights can't take notes from say Emirates or even Turkish Airlines... |

Thankfully they aren't in the airport. They had a flight out today but it was cancelled because of the strike. So they rescheduled for tomorrow on Delta. They're spending the night at a hotel in the city.
Thankfully BMW was accommodating. They extended my parents ED by a day. |

I just don't understand all the Southwest hate. I really don't. I fly them the most often, but I've also flown many other carriers in very recent times. I'm a domestic traveler when I do fly. On the routes I've flown, all of the other airlines' planes are just as "cramped" or worse. Definitely older\shittier than Southwest's aircraft (save for the ONE 737-800 on American recently from DFW to L.A. that I found to be nicer and more comfortable than a typical Southwest 737). I love not being absolutely gouged by bag fees. I just check in exactly 24 hrs. before my flight to get in the "A" boarding group which gets you any seat you want and, if you're that guy, overhead storage bin of your choosing. For not much more, if you're lazy, you can pay for Early Bird check in (where the cost is not a "fare equalizer", by any stretch of the imagination, even if you wait to purchase it at the counter right before you board) and get this ability without having to check in exactly 24 hrs. before your flight. I really don't see much of a downside to their method of boarding an aircraft ("herding cattle") as opposed to calling out random groups of people (sometimes up to 5 groups of special people with "privileges" and then by fucking seat order ). It results in fucking chaos that's frustrating. Hell, at least Southwest's method is efficient. Sure, they don't offer meals. Who the fuck wants to eat airplane food, especially these days, anyway? Really? Even flying overseas, I was like "Yeah...I can make it to Frankfurt." I also enjoy free TV on my own mobile device, whether that be my iPhone, iPad, or laptop.
Also, let's be crystal fucking clear that Southwest is nowhere, even remotely, located near the realm of shit in which Frontier and Spirit reside. |

I don't think there's any less legroom on SWA. I just think the seats are narrower. Or maybe I'm just used to flying with my 125lb wife beside me instead of some 225lb guy. I just know for both halves of this r/t to Orlando, I had no way to comfortably rest the arm that had to share space with the center seat person. I've done my sharing of bitching about AA, and they deserve it, but at least they have the option of ponying up a few extra bucks for roomier seats in steerage.
