[QUOTE=mjr24;30519915]I had a 24 840i coupe loaner last week, too. We have a X7 40i so I like the engine but I feel it’s too little for the 8 series. The car felt underpowered.
That’s a bit of a contradiction saying it feels underpowered in an 840i, yet you’ve got an X7 which weighs 500Kg more with the B58, and is over half a second slower to 62mph |

It’s not….people don’t buy a X7 because they are trying to go fast. It’s fine for a SUV. It’s not at all what I desire in a $90k coupe

It’s an interesting one in the UK - the V8 just wasn’t popular at all (likely due to our stupid fuel and tax costs). Just looking on Auto Trader, out of 196 cars for sale, only 38 of them are the V8. I’m very happy in my 840i, it’s quicker than 90% of the cars on the road here, and as it’s my daily doing 12-14k miles a year, it’s decently economical too. |

Christ!!! 840 drivers have really taken offence. If the 840 is the thinking man's car that you purchase using your head then no doubt M8/850i is a purchase of the heart.....each to their own.

I think we just get tired of feeling like we’re looked down upon and at times, ignored…like an Ecoboost owner in a Mustang forum. Human nature…

Topics like this can be hilarious, but just serve as a reminder that everyones tastes and needs are different. I love performance vehicles, but when I got my 840i GC I wanted a stylish, comfortable cruiser with good handling and performance, that could hold my family of 3. The 840i has given me every thing I hoped for. I would probably not be as happy with the M850. While I would love the extra performance I wouldn't want the louder exhaust. Also, when I drove an M850 last month I could definitely feel the extra weight up front compared to my lighter engine, non xdrive GC. And while I do love the 8 series GC's, if I was shopping for a new 2 door with torturous back seats I would still choose another Porsche vs an M8.
Now when I want to feel raw power I hop on my beloved by me (but detested by my wife) Ninja H2C. |

Seems like my post caused you some distress, it wasn't supposed to as when I was curious on others actual thoughts of owning the 840i. If you read many posts many clearly identified their thoughts too. You seems to be triggered on my topic with your recent actions and creation of the copy paste post. Don't get me wrong I love funny stuff, but my comment you asked about size and my reply was size dunno what was missed there. Cheers buddy.

LOL!!!!! In fairness it was the 840i that got me to fall in love with the 8. The initial test drive I had was super impressive, made all the right noises to the other half about how I didn't need more power and how smooth the ride was. And then I test drove the M8 sigh!!!

The AMG CLA45 S is probably the worst piece of junk I have ever driven. On a normal street. I've owned a C63 AMG S as well. One of my worst car buys ever. The stiffness, burbles, crackles, and rattles in that car, dang... don't ask me why I bought it. It was fun in the tunnels for two weeks, and after that, I couldn't wait to get rid of the thing. What is bizarre is that there are posters on here who honestly believe that people buy the 840i because they cannot afford - and really WANTED - to buy an M8. The truth is that the reason some owners of an M8 enjoy their cars (good on them) is the exact reason I DIDN'T want one. It's stiff and uncomfortable. It's bl**dy horrible to drive on the motorway for six hours. If more power while being comfortable is a requirement in a GT I would have gone for a Bentley Continental or a Taycan Turbo S (which is likely to replace the 840i). |

Before I know it someone who owns an M8 Convertible will enter this thread and begin to ramble about performance, which would be as consistent as owning a Ferrari with a 1.4 liter Fiat engine. Even worse would be if the same person tried to convince others that he owned a performance vehicle by posting threads on the Ferrari forum where he heckles other users for not buying the Ferrari chassis with their 1.4 litre engines as HE did. |

Ermmmmm Forethat did you not just post a similar thread about the M8? Batter change the batteries in the remote, the channel didn't change when you decided to switch.

I guess what SHOULD be expected is that someone who posts pictures of his BMW, discusses how the next photo shoot with his BMW can be better, and spends time producing build threads where he describes exactly the latest mod on his BMW, posts ideas of what mod to do next on his BMW and end up posting thousands of posts about his BMW in a couple of years, finally runs out of topics where he can tell everybody how amazing his BMW - and decides to post a thread where he tells others how amazingly bad their BMW is so that they can understand how amazing his BMW is. You couldn't make it up. In this case, OP also decided to tell everybody who doesn't agree with how amazing his BMW is, that they are liars and make everything up. Lord Flashheart was perhaps more honest: Quote:

a thread slating the 840i on a forum with 840i drivers, who would have thought?
have to say OP you sound like a bit of an arrogant twat, that's just my honest opinion though, no offense.......(jk, but you get my point) as for your 'why does this car even exist?' well for a start as you may have guessed the cost, in some countries such as here in australia the cost varies significantly more an 840i costs $230k, an m850i cost $330k, and an m8 costs $440k so an 840i is already very expensive, an m850i is 100 grand more, that's approx $70000 US dollars equivalent, so there's that as for your other points, the m440i is not more car, the b58 in it has more hp, that's it, a stage 1 or piggyback takes the 840i to 400hp, problem solved the 840i is considerably more agile than the m850i, maybe the 840i xdrive isnt (haven't driven it), but the rwd certainly is |

In the US the difference is much less. I did my due diligence by configuring both 840 and M850 identically, with Xdrive, rear steering and some of the other M options. The cost difference was just 10,000, so not really a big driver in decision making. Then it just came down to the engine, and the other chassis tuning. Much easier decision than for our UK brethren! |

Is there anyway we can close this thread? I feel as thought people just want to fight with others instead of just providing great talking points. If you read the first page and half the second there are some really great points that I missed from others. I even appreciated their input. Like I said it was my thoughts after driving one for a few hundred miles and for those who one many provided great detail. Others just simple get offended, not once did I say anything about the choice they made, but some decided to get upset. Let's keep this from going further and close this one out... geeeshhh
