I would definately consider the 1 Series - Actually the hatch IMHo is not that hot, the back is weird, and apparently in Europe it is underperforming sales expectrations partly based on looks (and price).
But the 1 coupe looks good. The only thing that would keep me from it is (i) rumours that the wheelbase is to close and its handling is a bit compromised - can anyone with a hatch let me know ? and (ii) the fact that I may well need 4 doors. I always wanted a 2002 when those were out and about, now I have a chance to get one that is brand new.

The hatch is based on the fastback look, sort of like the Z3 M Coupe.
The handling is sublime and beats the handling of the 3 series which is getting too big. Sales in Europe are going through the roof, don't think there is any problems there. And I don't know why someone said it will lower the brand?? The 3 series is the best selling compact executive car in the UK, outselling the Ford Mondeo, these are not exclusive cars anymore. |

The x35i engine is lazy comapred with the S54 inline six, the M is a brash NA power house that relies on revving the nuts off it to make progress, the x35i on the other hand is veryy refined and has torque from aound 1500rpm, so no matter what gear you are in you plant your foot and it starts to move with no drama.
I love my 335i but it feels very relaxed in its delivery compared with the M3 CSL it replaced. |
