Ha, that's awesome. I worked on a job where they had used about 50 feet of flexible pipe for the gas line on the roof, in a high wind area. I have no idea how that passed inspection.

So true, it drives me batshit crazy. How is it possible? I fold the socks together when they go in the hamper, I unfold them as I throw them in the wash. WTF happens between the washer and coming out of the dryer with an odd sock...

Just one odd sock? We have a huge basket on top of our dryer full of stray socks. I'm at a loss to explain it, since we both buy socks in bulk packages and should not have more than a few different socks and not a gazillion mis-matched strays.....

I live alone, so I almost NEVER lose socks. BUT - the one time (and last time I remember) losing one, was I found some socks I liked and immediately ordered a 15 pack. They were black, so I washed them all when I got them with a single pair of jeans that needed it. I dumped them from the bag into the washer - AND COUNTED THEM - as I put them in. When I took them out of the dryer, I was putting them together right then and there - and one was missing. I tore my washer apart, turned my jeans inside out, tore the dryer into pieces - nothing. That lone sock is STILL at the back of my drawer over a year later waiting for one to go missing or get a hole so it can get back into the game.

I will never forget that.

My dog has taken over as the official sock eater. She loves to eat socks. Clean, dirty, short, long,... doesn't matter. If I am missing a sock, I am pretty sure I'll find it in her poop in the yard.
