MyBMW app / car has Internet, still won't go
Hi
So, i just purchased this new to me G15 - 2020 - 840i. Now trying to make the MyBMW app work and it's such a struggle. The car is USA model, imported in EU. So, at first i downloaded the app and was retuning error after VIN input, called my EU dealer - they said they could not see this VIN in their db. Then it clicked - being in IT guy, i realized: For USA they have different app by being set up to connect to different servers where the US only VINs are in. Great, i had to do some tricks in order to get the USA MyBMW app on my phone, created an user, all went great until - the app asked me to validate with a code that supposed to show up in the car's NEW MESSAGES center. Of course this was not happening. I started to dig, to understand how the car is getting it's internet. So, i PRESUMED that this is how it does it, and correct me if i am wrong: Turn up Wi Fi of the car, connect with the phone to the car's hotspot and then you are redirected to the BMW telecom partner - ATT in US, T-Mobile in Europe. So, it redirected me to ATT - i was amazed to find out that i am eligible for a 3GB free plan for 3 months, great, created account, and started to navigate. I was using the car's hotspot to do testing and youtube and so on, not cached. Then i went into apps and opened the ' News' app - and woaw, it was working, fresh news in the feed. STILL, i tried to Update then the MyBMW app, I tried to use also the general Update option - all failing. My BMW app even saying that it doesn;t have connectivity. I reset the unit few times (long pressing VOL knob), still nothing. I ran out of ideas, but i feel i am close. If any of you has some info, pls, let me know. |

Unfortunately nothing specific in the way of help to offer you but more than once -- almost every time I have bought a new BMW -- there's always a problem connecting to the car.
In some cases I've been told there's a problem at the back end. Other times it is just an iffy connection. My best experience has been to do this at the local BMW dealer with the car parked as close to the dealer's building as I can manage. A parking space out front sort of ok. But for the best results I pull up along side the dealer's building and park on the driveway pretty close to the building. |
