I just got this notice today, too. Is it worth it and reliable? If I install it, does it change my availability to do a software tune on my 2020 model (made before Dec 2019)?

Are any of the updates ever worth it? I haven't actually noticed a difference after an upgrade in years, other than I have to redo all of my coding.

Those descriptions are so vague.... lol After I had mine brick up doing the over the air, I refused to do it again. The first few went fine then they dropped one that hit a number of cars, it was a worst nightmare scenario.

Did anyone update their M850 with the 11/2023.50? If yes, could you please verify if you still have in the iDrive the option that would allow you to keep the engine start in Sporty? thanks

It's a post a while back but basically did the update via wifi like normal during install it just stopped at 80% or something like that and just went into limp mode and had to be towed.

No, there is an option on the M850’s to keep the engine sound in sport mode, all the time. It’s only sound. Car still starts in comfort all the time only with the exhaust always in sport mode.
This is different than sport plus driving mode still as it doesn’t do the pops unless you switch to sport+. There was one member that complained the sport sound was no longer there as an option after this update, which means you may as well dump the car because there would be no point to even live.

You were likely locked out from a previous update. Your car will require a bench unlock ether way.

That said try Sport Individual with the engine on Sport Plus, transmission on your setting of choice but Sport is the most balanced and chassis once again on your preference but I run "comfort" due to crappy local roads. Also, follow the instructions on how to disable the flaps as well as ASD via pulling two fuses. Once done ASD is out of the picture unless in "reduced" as that will impact the ECU fuel mixture although it can't touch the flaps. Cold start in Comfort or pressing Sport Individual are basically the same, i.e., loud as hell once the flaps are permanently open. As posted on that thread, "sporty" is useless as long as one sets "depends on drive mode". I've never even bothered to use Bimmercode to set the car to always start in Sport Individual as it's the 1st button I push (Sport which remembers your last setting or toggles) before starting the car. As stated however testing Sport Individual vs default comfort mode (in the car and via remote start) there are zero differences once the flaps are permanently open. |

Inbound 11/2023.50 and uploaded to the car. Now will wait to see if the actual install ever triggers as if like the last two OTAs DOA. Not losing any sleep over it as my current version has all the "fixes" for DAP. So verdict out but if it installs and I lose "Sporty" as an engine sound setting once again no lost sleep.
Did find it interesting they included this in the patch notes. Guessing they have been for some time or this is the first go around regardless everyone knew it to be the case. |
