When you’re in your new m8 you’re never going to be thinking “man I wish I was in that 850 instead”

Not very articulate so not sure what that means. Questioning the buyout? Questioning not why the M8C? Those that truly know me on the forum understand my vice is not cars but rather another arena with complete investments in appreciating assets.
To each their own and enjoy your M8 while I enjoy my M850i and wear just a single example of one of my vices that could buy 3 M8's and still appreciating. 👍 |

Agreed my friend and perhaps my response was unwarranted and a bit of a stick in the eye. But hey we all love our toys, passions, etc. no matter what within any realm but "hmmmmmmm" triggered me. My bad and now watching the winders take care of my holy grail as the wife wanted to wear one of hers (which makes her X5 LCI childs play) tonight for a school function. 👍

I have some manually wound watches that require love no differently than getting ones car ceramic coated and the proper "wash". The rest all are on various Orbital winders with the 24 unit in literally a gun safe as it's the only safe I could find that fit it and a 8 hour fire protection (yep the entire house can burn down and it will survive). Wife's Rolex is in the Orbital winder on our MBR vanity countertop. She's put up with my obsession as I was all in before I met her 13 years ago. Her woman's Datejust (on the far right) is my version of modding a car as put a VVS1 aftermarket bezel on it that Rolex can't even touch for our 5th anniversary. Mine? All original including the Omega on the far left as untouched, 30 years old and #666 (irony to my playing in a hard rock band at the time of purchase) out of 999 and worth 10X her Rolex. Same goes for the Jaeger Le-Coultre in the middle as a one off can't buy it for nearly 2 decades in surgical stainless steel. All isured by Jewelers Mutual (except for the wife's) as no home owner jewelry rider will touch them as completely irreplaceable and nothing outside of current appraisal value (with all the appreciation). |

To say that the difference between an 850 and the M8 are barely noticeable is what the 850 owners would like us (M8 owners) to believe until we actually drive an 850 or race against an 850. |

60 mph: 3.3 sec 100 mph: 7.6 sec 150 mph: 18.5 sec Rolling start, 5–60 mph: 4.3 sec Top gear, 30–50 mph: 2.3 sec Top gear, 50–70 mph: 2.7 sec ¼-mile: 11.5 sec @ 123 mph And the M8: 60 mph: 2.5 sec 100 mph: 6.3 sec 150 mph: 15.5 sec 170 mph: 22.0 sec Rolling start, 5–60 mph: 3.5 sec Top gear, 30–50 mph: 2.3 sec Top gear, 50–70 mph: 2.4 sec 1/4 mile: 10.7 sec @ 129 mph The only metric they’re similar is the 30-50 and 50-70 passing times. So if all you did was slam the gas from 35 MPH to 70, the speed limit in most places, I could see why you would think that they’re not that different. Otherwise, the M8 is over a second faster to 100, 3 seconds faster to 150, and almost a second faster from a rolling race at 5 mph. And it’s 1/4 mile time is almost a second faster with a 6 MPH trap speed difference. The M850i is a fast car and an awesome overall package, but let’s not act like the M8 won’t destroy it in a race. On the street, rolling at 20 mph, I could see how they feel similiar and the M850i is more comfortable ride wise so I can see why someone would chose it over an M8. I was also thinking about an M850i for this reason, but there’s really nothing like a true M and I wanted to try that out. |

Auto top NL or whatever the hell, the German dude that does the autobahn pulls, had both the 850 and M8 out together on the autobahn and the way the M8 pulled away from the 850 out there was actually startling. Not a comment on the benefits of either one but there is no denying what was way beyond a walk.

Most of my testing was slow and moderate speed rolls-didn’t do any launches and stuck with more real world driving. A ~4400LB vehicle doing ~123mph traps would generally require more than 523hp from what I recall comps to previous 911 turbo tests when they were making similar pwr/~500hp and qm traps, as they’re much lighter, so the ~600hp dyno for the m850 still makes some sense here. Furthermore my guess is the M8C is making more than it’s advertised hp as well and I would luv to see stock dynos on an m8c, my guess is the delta would be somewhat similar.

There’s dynos showing the M8C puts out 600-630 WHP stock. Trap speeds are more indicative of power, and both cars’ traps suggest they make more than their advertised power given their weights. Using an online calculator that converts trap speed to HP and assuming a 4600lb weight (http://www.wallaceracing.com/et-hp-mph.php) it looks like the M850 is around 600-640 HP, and the M8 is between 700-760 HP. These numbers may be a bit high, but probably in the ballpark. |

I thought that the M8 felt more powerful by my butt dyno during the test drive. No question about it.
The other difference I notice is that the M850i feels closer to the M8 down low, at lower speeds. Once you get to 100 mph the M850i seems to taper off a bit while the M8 continues to feel like it’s pulling hard |
