Just test drove an M8 Competition. Shouldn't have done that....
Hey everyone, another twist in my story. Just when I was settling into keeping my M850i I went ahead and test drove a '24 M8 Competition.
I had no idea. This car is next level compared to the M850i, and it's not just the speed. Now I'm in love, sigh..... Check out below:

Up in my area. Knauz is a great dealer; bought my M8C - any many other - BMWs from them over the years.

Yeah and either the CA or "genius" along for the ride is just flat out clueless circulating FUD vs reality. Sad as that makes unaware buyers fall into the BS that magically after 1200 miles break-in service on a M there is more power.

I drove my M850 back-to-back with a 24 M8 comp conv last year, acceleration wise (from a slow roll, 50 mph kickdown) the seat of the pants diff was negligible at best. Full disclosure the tech that works on my car has always said my M850 felt much stronger than most he’s driven, and a new bone stock M850 tested here a few years back was a hair over 600hp on a mustang dyno so who the hell knows what’s going on. I would luv to see how a stock M8 comp tests on the same brand of dyno and if the delta over stock advertised power is the same.
I agree that blue is very nice.

I didn’t know enough about this car to refute what he was saying, but I’m guessing he was wrong about that. |

That said (and it sounds like you are too a buy and hold) I'd follow the 1200 mile break-in. I did it on my 2020 M850i coupe as although leased knew I'd buy it out with a 90% probability. As for the exhaust, if you go with the M8C there are mods to match or exceed the exhaust of a M850i. I'm keeping mine for now as with the flaps open and ASD defeated it is pure glorious at all times in the cabin. Cold starts scare my neighbors. 👍 |

One of the reasons I got the M8. I didn't want to have FOMO.

Their pricing sucks, though…hence why I service there but don’t even consider them anymore when I’m buying. I’m a fan of keeping my money.

No myth, the testing and results were posted here. Saying it didn’t happen is creating a myth.

Dude, you really seem to be concerned with depreciation. Not only getting killed on your current trade, and also keep in mind you will be losing about $70,000 on this car in like 3 years.

Agreed as any 8-series just like other manufacturer's large couples are a depreciation shit show. Went in with my eyes wide open understanding the reality. Oddly when I bought the lease out in December of 2022 I could have turned around and made $10K from Autonation and a few others but that was due to the ridiculous used car market at the time. Now back to the depreciation shit show. 😜

True but not everyone needs the extra power, etc. Passed on a 2020 M8 or M8C as both offered and couldn't justify the cost differential. No FOMO here whatsoever as could have picked up a M8C coupe in 2022 vs buying out the lease on the 2020 (October build delivered in December 2019). Bought the lease out.

I'm still thinking about that M8, but I like my M850i as well. Now I'm thinking about an exhaust since it's lost so much value. Kinda like "to hell with it!" mentality at this point, LOL

What's the price of 2 brake jobs on the regular brakes? Plus with the CCB's you get all those miles of better braking as well. Knowing what I know now, it's no brainer. My advise is don't buy an M8 without the carbon brakes. You WILL love them. |
