Where the CSL is clearly an upgraded version of the standard M4, the hommage if i am reading both threads right will be a technology demonstrator for implementation of a hybrid transaxle transmission (i would guess much more). Perhaps pointing the way to what we could (or should) expect from a future hybridized M car??? |

Wondering about evolution after reading a very old G29 thread.

It's bodywork apparently is if an M4 went bespoke. It's an Hommage to the E9 including optional classic M detailing. It's a very special project, that's more of a showcase of what can be done and is looking to Be implemented in the not so distant future. It could be the first of other bespoke projects under BMW M. Speculative renderings.

Original design was gorgeous IMO, this render, not so much. |

It’s indicated that Both the hommage and GT3 has the P58 engine and a version of transaxle transmission. The power output of the P58 is 590 hp in the GT3 and it seems it will be similar on the hommage. The CSL is believed to be based on the M4C RWD and have the S58, the ZF8HP and 540 hp. The orange render has some M4 bits as lights and kidneys, it would be unfortunate if that is true but I suspect it isn’t and the real design is closer to the hommage concept. Fingers crossed. On the other hand the M4 GT3 starts at $530k so looking like an M4 isn’t really a downgrade if what you get is a street legal M4 GT3… Last edited by solstice; 05-14-2022 at 02:48 PM.. |

Hmmm…the M4 GT3 use an Xtrac transmission. The hommage is indicated to be a hybrid with transaxle transmission.
Deduction make it seem plausible that the hommage have a version of this: https://www.xtrac.com/sectors/high-p...icated-hybrid/ |

With the clues given this seems to be a possible candidate to the hommage transmission.

If successful as technology demonstrator on the hommage i bet the next gen (MY2028?) m3/m4 will see the torque converter go away and be replaced by this |

Xtrac is mainly a racing transmission company and I unsuccessfully tried to find pricing but I suspect this tranny cost as much as an M3 so I doubt we’ll see them in any volume M cars.

It Probably cost that much when they debut the tech, now moving from pure race applications to a demonstrator ultra low production car. In another 4 years could we see a commercialized version of the tech? It seems like the right answer to questions of maintaining a high performance direct connection and having hybrid capability. Obviously we don't know where it sits on the reliability and scalability part of its development curve. |
