I need help buying M8? I keep reading post were people were discounted about 20-30k from msrp. Does that only work if you lease a car or buy? Also what would be a good price for a new M8 competition?

Those discounts can be had whether you're buying or leasing, a large discount just tends to become more advantageous on a lease since the residual is based on the MSRP.
If you need help, you can summons Dan at Next Level Auto Brokers, he's based in the northeast, but I would think he could help the stars align quite well on an M8 just about anywhere at a very nominal fee so you don't have to do the legwork. If you're looking to do it on your own, the big discounts are on the coupes and convertibles since they've been sitting on lots for several months, as evident by the fact BMWNA decided not to sell them in the US for 2021. Competition models are going to be harder to come by (expect to see a lot of white/gray/black base cars), but there are certainly a few out there. This basically means you have to look around at current 2020 dealer inventory (autotrader and cars.com tends to work well enough to this, but Dan likely has access to some additional tools to uncover some cars that might be listed). For a 2020 coupe, aim to settle around 20% off (+/- maybe 2%) + any incentives that might apply to you, that's about the going rate.

Don’t buy unless you plan on holding it for a long time. Depreciation on the M8 is pretty high.

I think so. You can always buy after the end of the lease and that gives you an additional opportunity to negotiate price. If you find a dealer willing to help, deals can be had for purchase below stated residual value in the original lease contract.

All good info here---- outside of getting a good price, the lease money factor is currently .00082 or 1.97% apr. That's cheap money as even a retail deal is going to be hard pressed to reach that apr without a decent down.
Lease it with no cash down, just drive offs, and enjoy it for 3 years and let BMW take the bite in the ass at return time.

I am looking to get out of this AWESOME M8 Competition Coupe. Hardly driven, leased it last month. We have temporarily moved to Colorado and I need a better car for the mountains...

Now this is interesting as everything I read before entering my lease with BMWFS is that they now have a hardline policy that the residual value cannot be negotiated by the original buyer for a lease buyout. Are dealers still able to do so? I'm curious as I'd likely buy out my M850i lease if I can negotiate the residual value. Based on what I know today from researching prior to the lease my only option is to turn it in and then have a friend purchase it outright (I'll supply the $) with the purchase price obviously fully negotiable at that time.

That would be this Cars.com search https://www.cars.com/for-sale/search...23419&zc=85213
The key being regardless of Alpine White or Mineral White you'll want to focus on the packages. For example although this one (https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...0964/overview/) has the full ZDY Drivers Assistance Pro package it has the watered down core ZDX Driving Assistance Package 2 which lacks 3D View. Here's an example (https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...8481/overview/) that has both ZDY and the full ZDA plus B&W audio which at least in my opinion is also a must have. |

https://www.cars.com/for-sale/search...28880&zc=85213 Seems to be 16 white M8 coupes left in the US. There might be a few more for dealers that don't list on cars.com, I find autotrader to be fairly reliable as well, so you could do a similar search there.

There quite a few exotic used lease companies as well that will lease a used BMW (SUV's) like Amazon (not related), Premier, Putnam, etc. There is no way these companies will alot you a favorable money factor and residual over just working a new car deal with the dealer and BMWFS. But when the 991.2 GT3 came out, Porsche was very very conservative in their residuals on the car and money factors so dealers were using Amazon to move/lease these cars for big chunks less in payment. Here is a make believe used GT3 lease via Amazon I did right now- make some assumptions with price etc (they dont lease used M8's only SUV's in the BMW fam)
