M #10 for me- 2020 M8 Gran Coupe Competition!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So I figured why only live in the single digit M land... I sourced this M8 GC CE for a superb price and grabbed it (slightly used with 1700 miles). It was not or ever will be my first color choice as black drives me crazy but when its clean; its fucking clean. The interior was also not my pick up front but its growing on me.

I will say after some minor mods the car really is good visually. From a driving perspective, it moves well and handles great for car with such heft and length. As Ive read, its the widest BMW of all cars they make. Its a nice offset to the F90 M5 I had (sold it) with its much longer frame and wheelbase. The stability is there no doubt but so is the ever so slight change in handling. I did use the KW HAS system this time which is a dramatic improvement over the M550i H&R springs I lowered my F90 on. The compression and rebound brings back fond memories of my first M- the E39 M5. It soaks up the undulations much better while also giving a visual change for the better IMHO.

Here are the minor mods and nothing bold but just minor things to change it up.

r33_RGSport Ben is just great- favorable pricing, service, and he is just a good guy always willing to accommodate. He moved his schedule around to do this plus made numerous adjustments to ensure the drop was good. KW for some odd reason doesnt allow a much more pronounced drop on the F93. Its fine but I could use a few more mm's.

KW HAS- maxed out but still just a bit high for me but Ill live
Reflectors front and rear- wrapped with gloss vinyl (quick fix)
H&R Spacers- 18mm Front, 12mm Rear
Race Chip- took from my F90 M5 and reprogrammed for the CE F93

supremepower Eric, Kim, Will- what can I say as Ive been going to Eric since 2001 for all things from aesthetics to power gains. He most recently did my R8 with exhaust and drop as well. His spacers have become my go to for so many cars (over 20) but he was out of the 18mm and Ben had them in stock. I called him Tuesday and he too made scheduling changes so I could drop off the car Wednesday and pick it up Friday. Service, Pricing, and utter convenience. He is my main mod guy.

Caliper Painting- I just went off the deep end here since red is now OEM. He even smoothed out the rears which have so much orange peel. I think yellow on black is rather cool.

Wheel Powder Coating- we went with gloss since the car is so glossy in general. I really like the "nasty" look here even though some will say black is played out. I am happy.

Other stuff done by randoms:

Exhaust- I had the center resonator pulled- I gained alot of decibels and just more sound which I wanted. A simple job that is easily reversed. If you are in the OC- see the Muffler Man in Placentia.

Tint- some cool guy came to my house- 35% ceramic

Black is a classic and while it might get or be boring for some, it still fits this type of car beautifully. Initially I felt the same when I saw that interior but when I see M8 advertized with that, I have to admit I am appreciating more and more and could imagine sitting in there too! Your mods give it a superior touch and stance so I think you are on the more than right track for this M8 NOT to shy away from your other great rides. On the contrary rather!

Holy shit this is beautiful. Great job! For sure inspiration for my future build! That ass is sooooo nice!

Would you mind taking a pic from the front, when you have time, I'd like to see how the spacers turned out.

Congrats Vic! Great write up and enjoy the ride! I honestly like the black and interior. I know it's a pita but when clean looks great especially so on such a large/long car

Thanks man--- the car sure does impress for a fatso. I took it thru some local canyon roads and it felt really good at the chassis limits. Its impressive and with the exhaust mod and racechip, it runs very fast and loud(er). Id still say my Remus on the F90 was just a bit more aggressive with aftermarket cans. I do like the stability with the extended wheelbase but there are tradeoff's. Thats why I have the other cars which are all GT or sport in nature.

I agree with the black but when it rains and its nasty Im gonna get mad LOL.

I do like the small tweaks that the CE gives with steering, dampers, and other handling adds. Its a nice high 10 second car with great luxury inside although I do find the M5 F90 seats just a bit more plush.

Haha I didn't mean fatso. Just meant larger cars when they're black look better to me. Makes them not look overly large and gives them a sleek bullet look :-)

I was just sitting the the kids wondering when you were gonna post the new pics of the drop. Looks great, like you said it could be a bit lower.

Is the extra money and smaller drop worth it just for the ride quality VS the H&R?

Would love to hear the exhaust!

Well, what a fine addition to your cool stable. Congrats!

The mods definitely enhance the look of the car and while I agree that it could be a bit lower (same as ours) it does look really well proportioned.
Think this is due to the fact that the M8 is already a whole 3 inches lower than the M5...

Do you find the performance on par with your Ed1 M5 or?

This is off topic but I've got to speak up. As a born and bred New Englander who before COVID used to travel to the Bay Area a half dozen or more times/year, I've got to say something here.

The pictures are obviously shot before the winter rains come. I've traveled to and lived in a lot of different parts of this country. CA is far and away the best for year round climate. Within 50 miles of the coast, the climate is cooler and much lower humidity than the East Coast in summer and obviously warmer in winter. If you're a skier like me, it's 4 hours away from world class skiing.

Now while the pictures show dry areas in the mountains in the distance, you can see the landscape plantings in the immediate area are lush and newly planted w/ supportive stakes.

Before I'm accused of going off the deep end, I feel obliged to mention some of my fellow East Coasters complain to me that the entire state of CA is burning up. For perspective, if you put CA on the East Coast it runs from Maine to Virginia and inland to Pittsburgh. People on the East Coast don't connect a forest fire in Maine to Richmond, Virginia but they hear of a fire in Redding, CA and ask their cousin in OC how bad is the smoke.

OK, I'm done. Back to cars.

Although I'm not into black cars, lowered, different exhausts - that side view of the car is spectacular. Those 813M wheels, yellow calipers and the polished look of the tires, really stand out.
