However, they haven't said what's going to replace it. if they replace it with say "M9", then the m8 will drop like a rock. But, if they just discontinued the m8 - odds are that we can see a solid 10-20% drop in prices. So you can probably find a used one for 40-50% of original sticker.
I hope. M8 is on my wish list. Currently driving M3 CS. I haven't driven an M8 but I don't need to. I know what it is AND what it isn't. I've seen them up close and sat in them though and it's a beautiful fast beast for a 64-year-old young at heart hot rod.

What about the non-M, 8 Series coupes and convertibles?

The M5 is selling like hot cakes where I live, my street (a dead end street) has 3 new m5's in the past 8 months (not including many others I see driving around). No e63s or RS6/7 seen anywhere yet.

Entirely logical. Nobody buys these coupes to carry more than 2. For M8 money you get a great 992. 3 years in, it's still worth more than half what you paid.

Not surprised here. The $100k - $200k coupe market is shrinking quite rapidly and I suspect the only contenders left standing will be either unabashedly sporty (e.g. AMG GT or 911s) or luxurious (e.g. S-class coupe).

The 8 Series and the M8 are trying to straddle that line and it doesn't work out well.

Does this leave the door open for a return for the 2022 MY?

I've only seen one M8, even in LA. I see the 850s more often.

Unfortunately for BMW, any performance-oriented consumer in this price range will prefer the 911 or something with more brand prestige like an Aston Martin. Additionally, BMW's poor residuals and reliability record make the M8 unattractive proposition overall.

Yep S-Class coupe is getting the axe, shame because it is one of the most beautiful 2-doors on the market right now. SL will survive and is rumored to be sharing a chassis/platform with the AMG GT for the next generation, I imagine that will likely take the S-Coupe's spot in the lineup as the luxury 2-door flagship.

Could be but I doubt it. This could be BMW's way of cutting supply to sell what is currently in the market but I doubt it would make a come back. The 6er only sold well as a Gran Coupe too and it just so happens the 8er Gran Coupe is the only variant I see.

Not affected, as attached is the bulletin from May. BMW market delayed the introduction the 840 xDrive to get the 1st movers to purchase the M850, and recently the 840 non-xdrive model is available. BMW is moving down market regarding pricing. Why the M fat at the top is getting cut.

Ah yeah, Mercedes is consolidating their entries in the high end coupe market into AMG GT for sport and SL Class for luxury. Volkswagen AG is doing the same with the Bentley Continental GT for luxury, and Porsche 911 for sport.

Aston Martin, which also tries to straddle the sport and luxury sides with their product, is also not doing well.

Also replying to Germanauto the market would have to correct, as way too much supply sitting on lots that there was $10,000 flagship money for early production builds. I believe that BMW also had a non cost individual paint special a few months back. Don't see market correction anytime soon.

Aston Martin seems to be destined for failure if the new DBX doesn't sell, and as much as I use to love them, the latest DB11 and Vantage both don't exude the British Elegance that Aston's use to have - the new Vantage in particular is a hideous mess inside and out and was rushed to production - and while I love an AMG V8, I don't think they fit the character that Aston is known for. The CEO (who was recently fired) sadly took the brand down with him.

I still lust after a Vantage V12 though, gorgeous sheetmetal and that engine is simply marvelous despite shockingly being two Ford V6's stitched together!
