Hate to see how the interior of the car looked like after the review. Leather and salty road grime doesn't mix well...

I'm sure the M8 is a great car, but from this video review it doesn't really seem very "special" in any way for their top of the line/flagship M car.

Yeah the price tag doesn't seem justified
For a heck of a lot less you can get a M5 with almost identical performance numbers, handling and comfort/luxury

They should have made this a lot more special for the price, maybe made it 700hp for starters

Yeah, especially since Mercedes is preparing to release a new flagship trim for AMG, the 73, and it will likely be on the AMG GT Coupe and 4-Door. Apparently it will have the 63 drivetrain (bi-turbo 4L V8) and will be paired to a hybrid/electric drivetrain/motor and will likely make 700hp!

I'd love to see M start taking some more risks or being more creative with their engines again, similar to the bangle era with the V10 M5/6
and V8 M3, I don't really care for them making electronic brakes and more and more items to configure with drive modes.

Really look forward to more high-performance hybrid powertrains but am concerned about weight. Hybrids usually add more weight.
AMG has made huge strides with their GT 2 door models being fun performance cars carving corners on the track and on the road rather than being straight line rockets.

All these 4 door models (GT63s, M5, E63s) as well as the M8 are just getting too heavy. I really like how our M8 rides but our AMG GTC easily out handles it

The other news is AWD coming to virtually all AMG's, including the next GT 2doors...

These two guys make some weird reviews. They launch every car everywhere, but I guess it kind of makes sense with the channel name. Also, their cinematography is exceptional.

The M8 is BMW at it's worst. Mailing it in with yet another product line which adds bloat and devalues the brand. When you ask yourself what does the M8 do so great that the 120k M850 doesn't do? I can't really come up with anything. And it doesn't look good or better either. My guess is you will be able to get 30k off one of these in a heart beat as they have no clear differentiation in the market place.

Unattractive and boring in every aspect.
Always think of a swollen 2 series when I see one on the streets, if I notice it at all.

Dumbest thing I have read in a while. M8 devalues the brand?

Following your logic why have any M cars? Why a M3 when there is a 340?
One can argue of what looks good or special but there is zero issue with the line-up.
I am no fan of the convertible but I for one appreciate a power coupe like I appreciate the M5 for a power sedan.

The problem and difference is price point. The M340 and M3 are at price points where the differentiation makes sense. When you are pushing 130k for an M850 in some cases, which already aren't selling well mind you - releasing an Mcar at the 160k price point which doesn't perform at mind blowingly higher levels just doesn't make sense.

Does it look like 160k car? No! Does it drive like one? No! Does the interior take the car to new heights? No! Does it sound amazing? Again, no it does not.

The M3 at the 80k price point is a compelling package which is why they are popular. In my opinion Bmw just put this out because they could - not because they should which is how your brand gets devalued in the first place!

Keep in mind, this is just one persons opinion as an ambassador of the brand for nearly two decades. I could be wrong and maybe this turns out as a large success but I kind of doubt it.

I am Not sure why everyone is hating on the m8 so much. There are quirks, it’s not the perfect car but I love every minute in it. It is similar to the m5 in performance but it’s not intended to be the same car. And let’s face the facts, the m5 is awesome car in every aspect.

For me these are just cars and material objects. I want it to put a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel. It does the job. After my lease is up I will be on to Something Else.

Price point is in the eye of the beholder. Higher price equals smaller audience.

BMW didn't make money with the 6 series and they were eying MB's S-Class coupe which was highly regarded and sold well at much higher price points at the time.
I recall that BMW stated at the time that if they already sell low volume cars, they might as well make money on them.
Hence the 8 series was resurrected while the 6 series was slowly killed off.

With the S-Class perspective, having the M8 made total sense S550/S560 vs M850 and M8 vs S63.

In the meantime, the market has changed and MB is killing off the coupe due to slow sales of a very niche car.

I agree that BMW could have made the car more special and have made that point as well related to sales, but I think the car looks good. I like big coupes and really enjoy this car. BMW's big grilles on the other hand are much more offensive to me

Point is that BMW build a competitive high-end coupe but doesn't have the best of timing and will cater to a small audience as anticipated.
It is also the brands highest performing car - not sure what kind of mind blowing performance you are expecting - plus it not really expensive compared to its competitors.

It's very easy to spend $200k on an AMG or Porsche. Impossible with a BMW...

Either way the 8 series in whichever flavor can under NO circumstances devalue the brand. Non-sensical IMO. That would happen at the low end of the scale...

I like the body style of new M8 Coupe a lot, not so much the GC or the cabriolet version of it.

However, I do not see a justification for paying CDN $40k more for an M8 Coupe than for an M5. Now, if one wants to fork out that kind of extra money in order to position themselves at the top of the BMW model hierarchy, that is OK too, there have always been, and will be, buyers in that motivation segment.

BMW positioned the M8 against the S63 coupe. M5 is positioned against the E63s.
Base M5 is definitely more bare bone than the M8 base.

Coupes also have a tendency to be pricier.

Never calculated the exact difference with options but the sedan/coupe difference is the same with MB...

That is true. At the end of the day I think it is reasonable to assume BMW knows their market better then we do as individual consumers, and one would hope that their model pricing strategies are based on such knowledge. The individual consumers, on the other hand, are free to do their own justifications and choices. It all works out in the end.
