Whilst its modern its by no means representative of a vehicle that priced well into 6 figures, simply not exclusive or special enough

Why not have chrome in place of silver plastic in many places, whats wrong with full electrics seats and full leather etc

just another mass produced car and BMW taking the piss with price

Now the interiors are easy...the 6er's was far more beautiful and extravagant in its design. The 8er's interior design is a total let down.
If I could retrofit my M6 with the 8 series dash and screens + idrive 7 it would the worlds most perfect car.

Unfortunately the 8 comes nowhere close to being as special as the 6 is in terms of interior design. The exterior design is ok, with some questionable angles, but the 6 just flows and looks so timeless.

I love the M6gc so much i have had 2 of them. I am reserving final judgement till I see a m8gc in the flesh, but I recently saw a m8 coupe at my local dealer. I do like the new interior better for the most part, I have never been a fan of the fully digital dash.

The concept m8gc was stunner and the production does not look as special. One of the things I liked about the m6 was that it was recognizable as a bmw yet looked like no other bmw. The new m8gc is looking like a bigger 4 series gc. This is something I despise in the Mercedes line up. Let’s see how the Audi rs6 looks irl.

Cars are emotional purchases. The 8 stirs nothing but emotions of disappointment for me. Maybe I'll get one when it's $25k or less as a beater car.

I've seen the 8GC in person and it looks like a little like a hatchback. It is actually surprisingly similar to a Chrysler 200, but strictly from a design standpoint, the execution on the 200 was much more seamless and classy. No fake crap anywhere on the 200.

The original plan, as I read a few years ago, was for the 8 and X8 to be a new bmw 'ultra' luxury line. Like the original 8 series they wanted it to compete with Ferrari. This would even have a black badge to differentiate it from the rest of the line up.

Also, I am stating this correctly so don't freak out: the 6 series was originally based on the 7 series. The 8 series is based on the 5 series so there is a historic reason to change names.

Imo, the new 8 doesn't quite do enough to be 'ultra luxury'. It's my favorite bmw but I'm not sure it commands a price above 6 series pricing. Hardly seems better than the new 3 luxury wise.

I heard the X8 is suppose to be a stand-alone M product and not a M-Derived base BMW. And I agree the 8 didn't live up to the hype. If the 6 name moniker was kept, it would've been acceptable.

If they'd drop the V12 in there I'd think we all would accept it over night

I'm surprised they didn't because the 7 series still gets the V12. I know it's probably a stretch but maybe Alpina will put it in their version (although they're known for massaging the already existing engine).

Quite pricey for the same car with a proper hood line but less leg room...

No, thank you. This care is not worth what they are asking for it.
They should have kept it as 6 with a 6 price.
The ones I have seen in the spring at the dealership, are still in the dealership... not surprised.

The Interior of the six, in two tones, not to mention Individual, with that flowing console it was and still is gorgeous.

I was somewhat interested but not excited or overwhelmed. No willingness to have one. Then, I saw the price and I said to myself “No thank you, I am not going to be that guy who buys your new badge perception. Good luck with that BMW.

And to be honest, slowly I am kind of getting away. The new grille approach and all over the place design pushes my further and further from the brand that I used to love.

I don’t want a car that looks Ok, or “it will grow on me”. What BS is that? I want a car that excites me and makes me happy and proud, and the late design doesn’t do it....
Sorry

The new 8 coupe looks fantastic, the new 8 GC looks...

The only thing I like about the new 8 GC is the front end that's it... The rear roof line connecting to the trunk looks like an RS7... it makes the trunk look shorter and more like a sportback than a gran coupe like how it used to be

I'd buy the coupe but not the GC unless they are making the M8 GC a lot better... it's still a 2 ton GT... only good for daily and HWY

I totally agree... what is up with the design team at BMW?? I am in the market for a full size SUV and I am not even going to consider the new X6. The rear on that car is just freaking ugly IMO. I've checked the new Porsche Cayenne Coupe and waiting for the new GLE Coupe to launch and see the actual car. W

Which both have a lot better interior design and update than the new X6, as well as a lot better looking rear.

Pretty disappointed with the current BMW lines and not to mention that we already got fxxked once with the N55 M2 and now they are planning to bring out a 4.0L new V8 to the M5 LCI and who knows maybe the M850i / M8's after just one year of release??

I am going to be staying away from this brand for some time, that's for sure.

What's this about a 4.0L V8 for the M5 LCI? I haven't heard any rumors about that, I thought a new V8 wouldn't come out until the next gen 5/7?

S68 is the new code, from the future bmw info thread:

The next 8 cylinder M motor is going to be called S68. Most likely, it will be an evolution of S63, not something radically new. I would expect some electrification with the internal combustion side mostly staying the same. Maybe it will be the engine for M5 CS, maybe for something farther in the future - not sure yet.

I always thought the 6GC was a stunner - one of BMW's best. I was able to score a 6GC on an Executive Lease, and enjoyed it immensely.

When the M850 series came out, I thought it was really a hot car. Yet the 8GC leaves me underwhelmed...

I think the 8GC starts to lose its looks as you get towards the C-Pillar. The rear and front are nice and aggressive, but towards the rear door the pillar looks pretty chunky, and the kink isn't as sharp/angled as it could be, its too round, and resembles that of a Stinger/Optima. Its hard to improve upon perfection, and in my eyes the 6GC (except for the hood-line) is peak BMW design. Classy, elegant, but still just sharp enough.

The 8 GC may look new, but it is just a conglomeration of design elements borrowed from other car companies just so BMW could come up with a new shape. Looking modern does not mean looking better.

The 6 GC is a much more beautiful car from almost every aspect of car design. It is aggressive yet elegant, not pretentious, has perfect proportions and does not need an overabundance of scoops, bends, creases and other design details to make it gorgeous.

It just is.

Love how all those 6 owners try to tell themselves the 6 is the better designed car. It is truly endearing.

The 8 coupe is not your average BMW, it is bold and engaging, it is finally a BMW that shows character.
It's a sculpture of great car design. You can focus on the design in the smallest of details and you will keep being amazed at what length BMW went to make this car truly special.

And people wallowing themselves in an overly affection for the 6 series doesn't change that.

Enjoy your 6, but please let it be a 6 and let the 8 be the 8. No comparison possible. Both are coupes and that is were it ends.

Only an insecure 8 series owner would be demeaning and condescending towards those that own and believe the 6 series is a more beautiful car than the 8.

If you truly love your car, great. But that does not change the fact that it a huge step backwards in design from the 650 GC.
