It looks heavier and less elegant than the 6 Series Grand Coupe. I think it's an adaptation to the more bulky and over-accented approach popular in China that somehow reflects the driver's importance.
That's what the new front grills are all about as well. I saw it lately on the 7 Series and I it looks horrible to me. But I'm not interested in all those types of business cars anyway. |

Love how extended that red interior is.. a couple quick questions...
- what actually is the difference between this and the 6 series? 8 is just the new 6? - with how much these cars have been increasing in price, do they depreciate the same in aggregate? Just trying to figure out how to justify spending $120k, it feels like the increases have seriously been outpacing inflation |

Yes, you do need some catching up. bmw decided to cancel the 6 series and make a 6 series GT, which no one really likes much and there are rumors it is already dead. Meanwhile, they made a bigger car , really upped their game on the interior including the seats, added rear wheel steering , refused to design in a Hoffmeister kink, and upped the price tag and named it the 8er that we've always wanted since back in the 90s. And we will even get an M8 And an M8 competition ! And M8 and M8 C grand coupes!! And (probably ) an M8 CS .... meanwhile ..... true 6 series aficionados should consider the current or the next 4 series, which will certainly be priced and sized more in accordance with what a 6 series (used to ) should be. As far as depreciation on the 8 series .. let's just say it depreciates like a more expensive 7er than a 6er... If you have to ask me how I know .. see my user ID. I've paid for plenty of wet 8ers this year already. |

That sounds awesome, especially the M8 CS part... but the expensive 7 series depreciation sounds a tough pill to swallow. I guess I'll watch these big boy toys from the sidelines for the time being |

So what does the 8GC compete with??? I feel like its a lot more expensive than an A7/CLS, but still similar in size? Or does it maybe compete with the AMG GT 4D?

Lets be honest, the 6GC is peak BMW when it comes to design. Its up there with the E46 and E39, most newer BMW will likely never beat this. Not to say the 8GC isn't good looking, it is, but it'll never reach the levels of the 6GC.

It's still in that range of A7 & CLS. Only difference is you'll probably get a prestige A7 for the GC base price. Same for CLS. I see depreciation in the future making them all near same price point. Maybe Panamera is the closest competitor in terms of pricing.

Luckily I still have 2 years on my lease, but I'm very interested in how the 8GC drives. I'm hoping its more impressive than the M550 that left me disappointed last time I tested it. |

Thats why I worry for the 8GC, it'll be a heavier car than the already heavy coupe, and the 8er seems to be pretty divided among critics. Some love it, some don't, I remember Jason Cammisa (a car enthusiast and reviewer who has similar opinions to me) slammed the M850 coupe in his review, so it should be interesting to see how the GC does. Guess I'll find out soon! |

One day when I'm old enough I'll perhaps pick up a 6 GC. I'm Still considering an M2 but to be honest . I like my 1M to much to give up. Updates on cars are coming faster.. just like phones went from 2 -3 year to a 1 year cycle. However it's come to a point where there isn't a lot much more that's in the new cars to keep them desirable. New tech , new looks , and new warranty is about there is. If the looks don't swing it and if the new tech is nominal.. suddenly your old iPhone .. er.....bimmer isn't so bad and nothing wrong with keeping it. So.. I say the same to you... keep your current car .. if it wasn't for some minor tech things (many of which can be done in the aftermarket ... ) older Bimmers are just awesome. PS.. if you ever decide to sell... let me know .. if don't have an M2 ...I'll probably be very interested ! |

I configured both, M850i is 112k and built AMG 53 was 110k. Same price with the BMW being much much faster and likely better handling. I haven't driven a M850i GC. I wasn't impressed with the dealers 125k AMG gt 53 at all. Felt it was a ripoff for that price. M8 GC competes with the AMG GT 63 and 63s
