Meh.....I would have to see it in person but it doesn't hold a candle to the 6 GC (which is the best looking BMW ever, IMHO). I think it's the rear and rear quarter panels......too boxy. The M6 GC still looks more updated than any current BMW in terms of the body.....

My M550 is faster than my M6 GC was.....the M5 just isn't worth the premium anymore (and I've had a few higher end M's). This isn't to mention I also would never own an M out of warranty.

Faster from a dig, yes, agreed--but that's xDrive and nothing more, though.
Is the 550 as fun to drive or as fast in every other respect? No, no way... that's not (mostly) subjective... it simply isn't. I understand that folks tend to bias their own choices but I feel I'm speaking from experience; here are my choices/cars over the past 7 years or so: 2 x F10 550i xDrives, 3 x F10 M5s, 2 x F06 M6 GCs, 1 x X5M, an RS7P and an E63S for good measure and 1 x F90 M5. However, if you mean would I rather have a used M6 GC over a new M550 today (assuming no warranty issues).....then no. I like the digital dashboard (which the normal 6 had but not the M6). I also like the ambient lighting (again, the 6 series had one color.....my CLS I had years before that even had different colors). The M550 has all of these and I don't feel I've lost power versus the M6. Obviously the X-Drive is needed in Wisconsin, too. No doubt I loved the exhaust sound of the M6 better.....even though M exhausts have always been too muted for me (with exception of V10 M6 I had).

I love that the new M5 is AWD. You just couldn't put that type of power down in the M6 effectively with RWD. Again, my posts are not an indictment of the M5. It's a great car. It's just more of a compliment to BMW setting the M550 up so nicely. Remember, a stock M550 was dyno'ed by Dinan and they said the stock engine really has something like 540 HP and 575 torque with 0-60 times at like 3.6 or so (and now it's already getting the M850 engine for 2020). No doubt I miss the handling of the M car. It handles 10 times better and makes you feel much more secure. I also enjoyed the exclusivity the higher model M's brought (M5 and higher). I like the M550, but trust me, I'm not one who could ever consider it a real M car. There is definitely a difference and I almost want to pull the damn M badge off the trunk. I'm not sure I fit in any particular target audience. I get rid of cars every 2 years and have don't really have a set need for a particular type. I drive what I think will be fun for two years. It might first be a M6 and then a convertible after that and an SUV after that. The M5's leased really poorly at first.....and to me, the exclusivity of the M5 was not worth almost double the price of the M550 in a lease when the M550 is 85 percent of the car the M5 is. My lease on my M6 was up at a bad time for cars......not much new was out. My lease on my 550 is up in a few months and I've had issues deciding what to do. It seems all the other competitors are slow. The 2020 S7 is like 0-60 in 4.4. The CLS53 is the same.....I mean these cars cost more than the M550 and are ridiculously slower.

From the side view, it seems that this part of the trim is too thick and it does not blend well with the rest of the car around this area. The door line does not seem to blend well with it; maybe it would look better if the door was longer at this part so that the door end line would look continous with shadowline trim. From the angled, side-rear view, it seems a bit better. So, maybe in 3D, it does not look as odd as it appears in that flat side-view picture. |

I much prefer the new Coupe to this Gran Coupe as I feel it's way to bland.

I've seen the 8GC in person and it is marginally better than the pictures. But that C pillar still sucks. Why did they get rid of the Hofmeister Kink and the Body line Kink at the same time. Two staple BMWs characteristics. They must have some young kid who doesn't understand design and heritage.
In any case, the 8G looks like a hatchback and I personally don't care for it. If it depreciates to $30k in 3 years, I might consider getting one as a winter beater. |

I was looking at the body lines of the Chrysler 200 yesterday in a parking lot. The 8GC and the 200 are quite similar from the side and the back. But the design execution on the 200 is actually better than the 8GC (front looks better on the 8GC). It is more cohesive and flows better. Plus, there are no fake body vents and it doesn't look like a hatchback.

Now the Grand Coupe makes sense. The large two door 8 Series was designed specifically to be a race car and I get that. Sitting in it, sadly it was nothing special. Why anyone would want such a large sedan is beyond me. But if Porsche is making it and it is selling there's obviously is sum kind of demand for it. Save some fuel ⛽️ for the rest of us.
The 6 Series Grand Coupe was a sweet car as well as the current 4 Series Grand Coupe. I think BMW eliminating the 6 Series was a mistake. Bigger and more expensive does NOT always mean better. |

I do not care much too given that I will unlikely be in the market for this line of car as it does not suit my current situation, and suppose if was into looking for a luxury car with sports look - one that I would drive most of the time rather than being driven or chauffered - I would rather get the current 2 door version of the 8S because it looks better than the current 4 door and I would rarely need to carry more than 1 passenger, but many of those recent odd changes indicate that BMW are like over-trying or over-doing certain things just for the sake of a change or to satisfy certain markets or too look like what one or more competitors have or only they know why; look at those significant changes in grille size for example. All that being said, like someome said above, those are small details but they matter, though I personally think some of them are not deal breakers but for some people they do lower the desirability for the car. Maybe BMW got feedback from past and potential customers that they wanted some of the rear parts of the 8S GC to look like the Audi A7 or S7 just like they did for the grille size on some of the other lines based on feedback , but I think it became like this more because of the boxy style of the 2 door version from which it was derived.
