key FOB fell off the key slot while driving
I was driving the car home after work and all of a sudden I heard something falling to the ground.
The next thing I notice is I get a message on the dash with the key FOB symbol. I switched on the interior lights... what a shock !! the key FOB fell off the slot and was lying on the mat. The car kept going and couple of miles later I pulled over and found the key and reinserted it into the slot and continued driving without any interruption. can this happen? Anyways its a loaner car..I couldnt care less.. but wanted to share |

Maybe the car had CA? But i know you can put the key in, turn the engine on, turn the engine off take the key out and turn the car on without the key if you follow those steps, i did it a couple times to impress some of my stupider friends, i told them i lost my key and had to hotwire my own car lol

after driving my e90 320i for almost 6 months, i seem to have gotten used to our unusual key fob, no major complaints yet with the start stop button, but i had 3 occasions, when i had to press thes start stop button 3 times to start the car. my car had not been left idle for a few days during the 3 occasions. wonder whether you guys had similiar experiences?

BMW car Key Fells Off
Hi,
I am new to this forum. I bought my car a while ago, one day i was driving to work and my car key fell off. I put it back in the slot but it fell off again. Since then whenever there is a little bump or sharp turn it fells off. It is very annoying... I put my finger in the slot to see whats wrong with it and noticed that a notch like thing is broken from one side that holds the key inside. So i will ring BMW dealership to get the whole slot changed. I am wondering someone can do a DIY and fix it... |

The key slot should have a lock on it while the car is on which holds the keyfob in place. Maybe that locking mechanism has broken...

I have a BMW E90 and my gf force out the keys damaging the key slot. What is the part number for the key slot. The car runs well, the only problem is the key slot (holder) keeps coming off when I push and remove the key from the slot. ...

I don't believe this is Comfort Access thing. I have an e90 which I'm certain has no CA and this happens to me ALL THE TIME while driving. I just keep driving and wait for a good chance to reach for the keys.

On the side of your key fob you'll notice two slits on each side. This is so it can lock into place. Without care, you can brake either both, or one of the sides that lock into the key and it can easily come out without effort. The engine will still run because as far as its concerned, the correct key was used to start the engine.
