How is Waco #3 on your list? I went to school there for 2 years. It was fucking miserable and depressing, filled with baptist zealots, prude do-gooder bitches, and inbreeding.

Bay Area (San Jose, Los Altos) > Arcata (Humboldt County) > Del Norte Co. (Klamath, Crescent City), back to Humboldt Co. (Trinidad, McKinleyville). Humboldt County by far the best (decent people/married/raised a family plus awesome ocean/rivers/mountains...).

Funny how we all think the grass is greener elsewhere. I would move to the US tomorrow if I could (CA in particular).

That said, I live in Australia, which by world standards is a lucky place to be at the moment: low unemployment (5.5%), high standard of living, clean, relatively low crime, etc. But I would give anything to spend a few years in a place where free enterprise and hard work is rewarded, cost of living is low, and ideas and progressive thinking are mainstream. In Aust, despite the good things, we have a very high cost of living, taxes are very high, govt red tape is insane, and worst of all, there is a "nanny state" mentality here. The government wants to regulate everything that is deemed to be "unsafe".

How so? I've raised 3 beautiful daughters here, raised 3 fabulous black labs, have a productive vegetable garden, chickens, ducks, a rabbit, an apple/pear/cherry/plum orchard, a neighbor who grows marijuana inside his house and I enjoy his company and all my neighbors.

I do field work and have for over 40 years and have never felt threatened. One stays clear of outdoor grows and why worry what somebody grows inside their home? This is clearly one of the most enjoyable places to live in the country.

Not mostly rednecks, that's distant history. And yes, quite beautiful!

I see Eureka & Arcata from my back deck but live just north (used to have the same zip code as Arcata) in McKinleyville.

If I was still in Cali, it'd be Studio City. The proximity to everything in LA is great and the real estate isn't that bad when compared to the west side, etc.

That being said, I'm back in Chicago. One of the few "big cities" where you can still buy a home and drive a nice car without having to work 150 hour weeks to afford it. Good food/Good people for sure... and the architecture isn't that bad either (one thing that LA just didn't have). Of course the weather is a bit of a change from LA, but the old saying goes there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.
So if u dress right all the snow and ice will melt off the streets and ur car?

San Diego is the best place i've ever been from.

Just got back from Miami last night. It reminded me again why I hate the Right Coast.
