2023 BMW 840i x-Drive Coupe
Hello everyone; I am new to the BMW experience and searching for performance upgrades. This forum comes up. As the title states, I have an 840i x-Drive coupe. I wanted to know if anyone here has been modding that car.
I have a list of mods below that I would like an opinion on. I don't plan to track the car and want to increase its presence and power. All advice is welcome. Some may seem don't right crazy, but it may happen. Thank you in advance for your input and for welcoming me to the BMW family/Bimmerpost family. For the price of that tuning module, I’d opt to spend a little bit more and get one from AC Schnitzer as they’ll provide a warranty too (assuming your car is still under manufacturer warranty?)

Sinister840 wow…that’s crazy money. No mate, my 840i is completely standard - to be honest it’s more than quick enough for UK roads, and don’t want to mess with warranty etc.

I do yes - I actually had to replace them as I had PPF put on the front end. Part number on the pic.

Instead of spending that cash I'd go trade it in on a M8 and pocket the left over.

I mean your list puts the price of your ride over M8 money and if you find a older M8 you probably save 10k easy. But I get the B58 comment it is nice.

Yeah I get it, maintenance wise is really pushing pennies for sure.

I purchased an 840 in December and initially wasn’t blown away by the speed or exhaust sound, but at over 2k miles now, it has really loosened up and even without being in Sport Plus nor using launch control or power braking or WOT she will spin the tires and power slide and the exhaust sounds amazing. I was not expecting this level of performance or sound.
I purchased thinking she’d be quick enough and very quiet and comfortable for highway cruiser/commuter and she’s both of those, but she’s also quite a beast. Unless someone owns one so they get to experience the 840 after 1k to 1.5k mileage, they truly don’t know what it can do. Does the 840 have the race car rep of the 850 or the M8? No, but considering the better handling and MPG, I honestly believe the 840 is the best all around 8. I drove a CPO 850 and an M8 and both felt too heavy, almost unwieldy…especially the M8. Price was about the same as my new 840 so that did not factor into my decision. Sure, more horses, please, but I know made the right decision. Maybe down the road, after warranty expires, a tune, but I doubt it. Also, she carves through traffic like a scalpel and handles corners like she’s on rails. I seriously could not be happier. Not sure how many miles you’ve racked up, but if not at/over 1500, wait and see what you think after. Also, I put on the Continental DWS06 in 245/40 front and 275/35 rear which filled up the wheel well perfectly. She actually looks lowered.

OP - why not a G82?
Size wise, there’s not much between them and the M4 has a bigger back seat. Power-wise, the S58 is an absolute monster with a very friendly aftermarket to support your thirst for mods. It’s lighter than the M8/M850i. Cost-wise, it’s on parity with the 840 models and certainly way less expensive if you factor in the mods you’re planning for your car. Luxury-wise, full leather is an option for the G82. It’s comfortable on long trips and has the same amenities a load 8er would have. It does not have the B&O stereo option, however. Not sure if that was a factor for you. Love the 8, but if you’re planning these $25k+ in mods, the G82 platform is going to give you WAY more bang for your buck.

why I chose the 840
I wanted an M4... The problem is that I could not afford it... I know they are about the same price depending on the options. But what happened is this... I had an M340i that was coming to lease end. Back in February, I was looking to upgrade or buy out my lease. I went to the dealer to discuss options. I left saying to myself I would keep the M340i as an M4 was out of reach. 2 months passed, and like every dealer, I got leaflets saying upgrade to the new M340i. I threw them away and ignored them. I then started receiving the same info via e-mail. So I was smarty pants, and I responded to the email saying, "I want an M4 or M5 lease for 900 a month, no money down, 15K miles/year.... if you can't do it, I understand". I was then accidentally forwarded an email from the internal sales staff making fun of me. I complained and now have a lease for 2023 840i for 900 a month, 12K miles/year, no money down, and a 45K buyout at the end. Maybe they wanted to be friendly, perhaps they wanted to get rid of this brand new 840 sitting in the showroom, and it would "keep me happy"... Cause I know that if you run the numbers, there is no way I can afford any vehicle that is 90K+ on my salary. But that is the story, as short as I can make it

I initially test drove the 840i coupe it is a wonderful car and I was deadset on buying it but no x-Drive version in the UK so canned that, started looking at an 850i there wasn't one available to test drive so test drove an M8 never looked back and that in a nutshell is how I ended with my M8 coupe.

Hello! I have a modded 840i! Custom exhaust setup and also ecu tune! I also came from a m340i and I had a 2020 version with a dinan exhaust and it sounded so much better than the current models. I love my 840i. Hoping to upgrade to an m8 one day though!
