Advice needed - new BMW purchase and registration

Dear fellow BMW owners. I ran into an awkward situation and looking for advice. I leased a new 2024 M8 GC from a reputable dealership in Maryland on August 14th. They shipped me a car but as of this moment still have not registered a car in my home state (MA) and I still don't have plates. This coming Monday will be 5 weeks since I am paying lease payments and can't drive the car. They keep ignoring my emails and calls and don't provide any updates. BMWFS are charging my account and there is no date in sight when I can start using a car. What should I do in this situation? Any remedy from BMW NA?

This is definitely weird, but out of state lease deals are really tricky with correct tax information.

I would call the dealer and speak to the general manager, or at least head of finance. I would insist you stay on the line until they connect you to someone who can help. Good luck

State laws can vary....but I am surprised the dealer didn't give you temporary plates. Have you called your local state DMV to see if the paperwork has been sent in? It can normally take awhile for all of that to go through dealers.....but again, they should have given you a temp plate.

Or are you sure you aren't the one who is supposed to register it? I assume you have all the paperwork....

Just make sure you do not delete your emails . They are you receipts. No one realy bothers to help anyone anymore. Just another day at the office .
I was sent bailiff to recover money that I supposedly owed a electricity Co. Two years I stressed that I don't even gave an electricity meter!!
Got it sorted ( i thought ) and then got a bigger bill for power that i do not have.
In short.... keep sending the emails stressing that you are trying to contact them and they do not reply...and also state that you ( yourself ) will not be held responsible for any action that may be taken against you . Stop lease payments or , ask them to credit you you for the lost time of having the car and not being able to drive it and register it but that the leasing Co. have been taking payments for the car .
A good email that sounds like it's been written by a lawyer does the trick.
Good luck 👍

Tax is levied and charged and handled by BMW FS. Eventually they will register it. I just don't want to pay for the car that I can't drive ...

They did give me temp plates. But in MA they are not recognized and can't be used. Registering a car can take 2-3 days at most. Not 5 weeks. I did ask for paperwork to register the car myself, but they have some policy that everyone has to follow ...

Temp plates are not allowed in MA. Problem is that this sale slipped through in between different people and due to their internal mismanagement and I am paying for their mistakes...

Registering a car always takes 1-2 months whenever I’ve bought out of state. I don’t know where you get that.

And frankly why I went with a local sourced 2024 X5 40i for the last minute needed purchase to replace the totalled 2017 X5 for my wife. I looked for 2023's (iD7) with my specs but all out of state and didn't want to deal with the AZ DOT registration hassle, etc.

Are we talking the 3-day temp latest with limited purpose or a 30-day temp plate? At least with the AZ DOT one can get a full 30-day temp plate with the only restriction being it can't be driven out of state.
