New Guy

New to BMW, coming from Infiniti. Very impressed with BMW. I'm in the DFW area, looking for meet ups or group drives. Love everything about this car. My wife can hardly get me out of it.

Welcome!

There only seems to be a couple dozen of us with 8s fairly active on the forums, and we're pretty well scattered throughout the country (other than pockets in the Northeast and Southern California it seems), so it's likely best to look toward some of the more popular subs if you're looking for a meetup. F80 is likely going to be one of your best bets, and they have a dedicated Southwest forum.

I went to a larger BMW specific show last weekend that had about 550 cars show up in an airfield. There were about 430 F8x there, 50 F30x, 10 G8x, 10 E9x, and then a handful of other assorted cars. I was the only M8.

I don't see any mentions of DFW at a glance in the regional F80, G80, or F90 forums, but Houston and Austin are mentioned and they might be able to guide you in the right direction if you post there. I do see a BMW DFW Motorrad club that meets for breakfast in Grapevine weekly and goes for a ride, the existence of that club would in my area would probably make me hunt for a new toy on the side.

I've wondered myself where all the 8 owners are. I know this forum is just a small corner of BMW owners but surprised don't see more activity here.

There aren't many 8 sold. I'd wager a good chunk of those sold either: don't speak English, don't spend much time on the internet, or simply don't know this forum exists. Combine that with the MSRP and the fact that probably half of the remaining group works full time (100+ hours) And you're left with only a small number of guys that are retired, semi-retired, and/or have time and ability to use Internet forums.

For me personally, my m850i was my first Bmw and I didn't know there was a CCA rebate or Bimmerpost or anything else like that. And I've been a "car guy" going to more car shows and car meets in my local area for 30+ years.

MB, Porsche and BMW have these type forums; but if you came from another brand - you probably didn't even know messages boards existed. And if you're of the newer generation, you probably don't know anything besides Instagram,TikTok, and/or SnapChat. Without video.

Like manual transmission and anything bigger than a v6, text messages are a dying breed of art.

You’re kidding, right? Car forums have been around for years. For all kinds of cars, all kinds of brands. From Corvettes to Chevy Bolts. Model S to Kia Souls. Acuras to Vipers.
