Do people really hate the M8?
I’ve been in the market for either an M5 or an M8 Competition Coupe, and i’ve seen so many M8s on lots sitting being discounted. Now yes that does sound amazing to lease one and not eat the loss at resale, but that’s not my concern. How does M8 drive? does it drive like a 2 door sports car Gt or is a fat heavy car that doesn’t corner well, I genuinely don’t know and would like to know M8 owners review on the M8, and also 1 last question would you guys rather have the current M8 or the new upcoming hybrid elephant M5 curious to see what others think and what they will choose.
Thank you! |

Current M8 all day long. If you track all the hybrid issues the XM is having you might want to wait till next year or two for a system like that. Heck I tried buying an XM with 27k discount and it was on a stop sale due to issues a few.
The M8 is a handling monster for its size, a true "Sports GT", but also a large amount of luxury all in one package. I've always said this and I've owned MANY brands no body does it better than BMW. They hit so many check marks they always make sense. Myself I took the opportunity to get my vert M8 because it fits a space I don't have in the stable. Many on here daily theirs its solid no troubles. The M8 like many high dollar luxury vehicles are taking a bigger hit in this market settling time. Let's face it who is buying a 130k+ car often enough to keep the demand that high for these things. Quote my words now the M8 will resale in the future for over 100k when it goes down as the last true all V8 BMW. There will be a value rebound over the next 10 so years for this car.

I have a '23 M8 GC which weighs almost 4500lbs. Before this I had a '17 Cadillac CTS-V. I can feel the extra 300lbs as it does not handle/corner as well as the CTS-V. But, it is definitely more luxurious and comfortable. Traction is amazing, coming from a 640hp rwd sedan. Get on it hard from a stop and you can just roast the tires. The M8 just goes. So while there are some trade-offs, I am pleased with the M8

If you want a further deep dive in the handling performance just watch some of the lap times set by the pros out there, which will be far more than I would assume many of us will ever have to care for. lol M8 on some circuits push some of the equivalent cost 911's which have also gotten big though too.

Zero hate--- more like excessive production and poor price points on a car that sits in a world of 911 pricing and is technically a coupe. Thus the rebates, trunk money, discounts, etc are OUR gain except for a small period in time circa 2022.
As for the car- Looks amazing Sounds great Excellent luxury GT level performance that can be tracked too Easily modded/access to products if one chooses Its just a niche car and falls under the "german coupe" death stamp (Benz and BMW). So no hate, just lack of desire for some.

I owned an M5 and recently sold it and ended up purchasing a 2024 M850i Gran Coupe. Initially I was in the market for an M8 and did have an opportunity to drive one. It's an incredible car (BEAST). Like my M5, it rode rough which wasn't a deal killer but when I stopped by my local BMW dealer I ended up test driving the M850i. I was actually quite impressed with it. 0-60 it seemed just as quick as my M5 but the ride is much more comfortable. And the M850i stock
sounds so much better than both the M5 and M8 not to mentions the $30K difference in price versus the M8. If you're truly interested acceleration and more horsepower at higher speeds, then the M8 would be the way to go. I can honestly say, I'm extremely happy with my M850i Gran Coupe. So as not to void my warranty, I'll hold off any mods for the first year but after that I'll considering tuning, exhaust and few other things and after that, I bet it will hang with a stock M8. |

This. As I recall S coupes didn't really fly off the shelf either. Small niche market, some might say "throw away money". Yet all big German coupes remain solid, good looking and offer strong performance with long haul luxury. There is nothing else like them.

The SL was just redesigned and there were huge discounts right after release. Coupes just don't sell well.

Nah it's definitely not hated, could be misunderstood because of the weight of the car, but hey remove the seats from the back and that helps lol, those seats are useless

Love mine. Just not an overly big market for them. But a great car and a blast to drive.

People don’t hate it because there’s many for sale. Rather they are moving into another brand or market segment and there’s more out there than people realize. After all, the model is near its end.
Isn’t this normal given it fills a high end niche market? I’ve done too much to my M8 to provide a fair assessment but my car is a beast and is nothing like how others describe the M8. It just took $30k to get it to where it is. BUT, the p-guys don’t have their gorgeous wives take their GTS’ out because it’s not their thing or too rough a ride, or whatever. My wife takes my beast out all the time and men follow her around. This car does everything but take 2 couples or a small family out. If you really want to transform it from what you’d expect from a heavy car, just reduce unsprung mass by getting a set of light forged wheels. Light means 25-28 lbs. Ultralight means 19 lbs in an Apex 19 inch VS5 RS. Last edited by Dr Thrillride; 05-17-2024 at 10:39 PM.. |

M8 without any further thought. Can’t really stand the 4 door versions of the 3, 5, and 8 series M or not. Never liked the M5. I’m stereotyping but M3 drivers on the track are goofs who fuck up on the track more than any other driver I’ve ever encountered. Never seen an M5 on the track, but just don’t get the line of that body. M8 is perfect for me at least.

Tech wise I don’t get it. I guess I’m used to airplane cockpits but I don’t care about the dash much, but that said, the monstrous screens in today’s cars are hideous. The M8 dash is elegant BMW. HUD is a must. B&W is not a game changer for me. Don’t need back seats.
This engine makes some crazy power once unleashed. Combine that with its elegance and versatility, and it’s hard to beat. |

There a few forum members that have tastefully modded their cars and they’re all amazing. Parts aren’t cheap on this car. Sometimes I think to go back to the M4 but then I needed to buy the last V8 BMW will make and I recall struggling with the sound of the S58. |

As an M850i owner, I took an M8 GC for a test drive (I also have a video of that) and while brief, it felt great on the road. It’s not a light car, but for its size it’s nimble as you can be, it is bonkers fast, comfortable, and I think worth every penny. If I hadn’t got clobbered by depreciation on my M850i I’d be driving one now. However, it doesn’t sound as good as the M850i
