weird sound in the undercarriage of the car
about 4 or 5 times I have had my car in park at a traffic light...and all of a sudden I hear this loud humming sound that vibrates my car...it seems to be coming from the back 1/3 of the vehicle and it lasts about 5 seconds...any ideas before I call the dealer and sound like a complete wacko?
it kinda sounds like I am moving my power seats...but louder and vibrates the entire car.... thanks

That's the nuclear reactor.
Seriously, though, my e90 does not make weird humming sounds unless my passenger does questionable things with the stereo. |

You think it could be a problem with the comfort braking feature? Does your car have to be in park for it to happen? Or does it happen after braking a large distance or what? I can't imagine what it might be.
Sometimes when my car is cold I hear a faint rattle coming from what seems to be the catalytic. I wonder if that's normal too...

Are you sure it came from the back of the car?
It seems like the radiator fan to me, but that would be at the front of your car. When you're stopped for a period of time with your engine running, most cars have a radiator fan that turns on to pull air through your radiator to keep the heat down. |
