Advice Please - What to do??
I only picked up my new BMW a week ago on the Friday, washed the car on the Saturday then was away all week interstate.
During vehicle delivery on the Friday there were a couple of Warranty issues to be resolved and whilst I was away my wife drove it to the dealer during the week for these to be resolved. My problem is I returned from interstate and on the Saturday went to wash the car, and found there were scrape marks in some of the small holes on the rims (I'm told this area is where a wheel alignment tool is used). I have spoken with the dealer and they have acknowledged that there is no way I the customer could have done the damage and that it must have been like that from the factory; but as a week had passed they are unable to pursue BMW for Warranty ?? The dealership has also denied they did the damage (I have no reason to disblieve this) and the best that can be done is to repair the rims. I have an issue on a 1 week old car to have the rims re-painted. Am I just being too picky or should I pursue BMW to replace the rims. The damage is not that obvious but I wanted a NEW car not a Demo ! Cheers.. Last edited by aaccon; 07-13-2010 at 11:57 PM.. |

Is it around the wheel nuts?
If so, it's from using air guns and sloppy work with the tyre wrench. This drives me insane when you take it for an alignment, etc, and they can't do it more delicately. Have you got a photo? |

If the scrape marks are "inside" the small holes like you mentioned, then I woulddn't want the wheels repainted. I think i'd live with it. Post up some pictures so we can see the severity of the issue.
There are always people going through worst things. I have a friend who picked up a 135i 2 weeks ago and has been back to the dealer numerious times since. His last issue to get sorted might involve a re-spray of the rear quarter panel. |

Just got my computer back on-line after a disk crash. I have taken some photos on the marks. I have 2 scarpe marks per rim on the chamfered lip of the small holes. They are not that bad; but they are damm annoying. I also have noticed that I am continually getting rust marks in the large holes where the wheel nuts are, and it stains the alloy as there is no clear coat in the wheel nut recesses ?? is this normal on a BMW rim ? Appreciate the input. Thanks |

In the small holes the discolouration / verticle line are gouges; they don't come up well in the photo. On your mates car and yours is there a clear coat layer in the wheel nut recessed area ? and do the rust stains come off easily ? Cheers.. |

ahh right i think see it now. 2nd pic seems clear.
we both have gloss black coloured wheels (I saw his and he hooked me up with a set too). They've been painted properly for wheels but im not sure about the details however the stains come off really easily. Also it only really happens after i wash the wheels... maybe caused by water penetration?? ATM my wheels are covered in dirt and brake dust so its impossible to see the rust if it is there. have you got any pics of what your rust looks like? If I get time, i'll wash a wheel tomorrow and try to get a picture if it happens again. |

Yes ... I can see what you are refering to. I understand where you are coming from but I don't think that I'd want to get my wheels re-painted over that. Personally, I think their is a bigger chance of a re-spray not being done properly and you end up with the repair looking worst than the origional damage. The dealer should order you in some wheel touch up paint and sort you out.

Its only going to happen again at next service when they rotate the wheels! I wouldn't get them re-painted either as you may end up with a worse result!

Wow and I thought I was anal
Seriously though, it's not a big deal man as you'll notice scuffs here and there as the car ages and begins to show some signs of wear and tear. Just enjoy the ride and worry less about such stuff |
