M8 Squeeky breaks
I have the 2023 M8 grand coupe , taken it to my dealer several time for the squeeky metalic sound when coming to stop . I am being told this " is normal " and BMW knows about it and nothing can be done !
this is crazy and unacceptable , us owners need to band together and let BMW HQ know we will not accept this as a NORMAL issue. any thoughts ? |

This has been discussed and debated many times. BMW has issued several service bulletins on this issue. Sometimes dealers will take steps to at least temporarily resolve the issue by sanding the rotors and either replacing the pads or sanding the pads and chamfering the edges. This helps sometimes, but not always.
BMW calling this "normal" is nonsense. You've got a few choices 1. Stamp on the brakes a few times to try to remove the glaze that is responsible for this noise. 2. Get some iron remover spray, I suggest sonax wheel cleaner plus, and spray it on your brake rotors and get it into the area where your pads meet the rotors. If possible use a brush to work it in and allow time for the chemical to turn colors. This helps in many cases. Note, only do this when the brakes are cool and you must rinse your brakes very well with water. Do not let the iron remover sit for too long. I understand getting to the inner side of the brakes is difficult. Start with the easy side and see if it helps. I've had pretty good success just doing the outer side. 3. Ask your dealer to have a meeting with the shop foreman to discuss and ask him what can be done. Some dealers are better than others and will push BMW for permission to do warranty work to help resolve the issue. Although often times the fix is only temporary. My 2 cents.

This kills me. I’ll be inching up all cool at the light and the mom in minivan to my left looks at me with cringe face from the squeak, rolls up her window, and speeds away.

I had two F90s. Both noisier than a rusty school bus. Summertime and the situation you describe was the worst, and was noticeably more embarrassing when my windows were down so I could hear the full throated roar of my bleating brakes - doubly so if the car I rolled up on had their windows down, too. It wasn't THE factor in moving to my M850, but it was A factor, not gonna lie. 34,000 miles in on the M850, not ONE PEEP yet. And I always still seem to stop in time.

Wailing at stop lights!
Just turned over 13k miles and my brakes started wailing at stop lights...geez!
Dealer said same thing... Hard braking to remove the glaze from brake pads. He said the tire shine chemicals at car washes screw them up. |

Gotta call BS on this. My two F90s never went to a carwash and both started squealing by 2,000 miles. Hard braking never did anything. My M850 brakes have never made one...single...sound. Ever.

I have the same problem with the breaks. Just got my 2024 M8 Comp Grand Coupe and have about little over 3K miles and the breaks squeak bad. Thought it was normal now I know I need to head to the dealership to fix.

I've got the ceramics so I'm lucky with zero squeal. But I'd be pissed if my 180k car did ! Really pissed !!!
Not right!! What about those I-sweep pads Ben sells ? Would those help with more than just the dust aspect ? This might be old school thinking or wrong completely. But in my early days of cars we would put some never-seize on the back of the pads to prevent squeal. It did work. I had big brakes on my Datsun Z Car and this stopped the noise. |
