Normal for the fan to stay on after the car is off everytime?

Hello. This is my first n63 v8 car and it seems to run very hot. It is normal for the fan the stay on after the car is off? It seems to do this every time even if I don’t drive too aggressively. Thanks!

The 20 watt electric coolant pump can run for up to 30 minutes after engine shuts down...and the electric fan can run up to 11 minutes after shut down.

Below is information about the N63/N63TU iteration's 3 different coolant circuits:
  1. engine cooling circuit'
  2. turbo cooling circuit
  3. DME/charge air cooling circuit

The og N63 is a POS. I think it's on the 3rd generation and it's fairly reliable from what I've read

I want V8, but want to try BMW nice inline-6 feel, but still want V8.... so probably 850.... one question, will this pump + fan running negatively affect the battery longevity? Say, you will have to replace battery much more frequently due to this?

Thnx, gurus!

N63 here in Phoenix AZ and the active grill opens (granted 100 degrees) on just starting the car. Come home and at least another 10 minutes plus with the grill open and cool down.

Have an inline 6 on my wife's X5. It still can surprise me on pickup, etc. but compared to the N63 in the M850i a total sleeper. My wife still complains she has not yet driven the M850i. My answer is that it is death on wheels as it scared the crap out of me for 2 months before I became accustomed to the nearly instantaneous forward acceleration.

Sounds 850i will definitely satisfy me (or scare me, put it another way….). Thanks for sharing. Look forward to it myself.

I've had many inline 6 motors Inc diesels . Bmw vest in the world for the inline 6. I drove my friends M3 V8 and was blown away with that monsters sound . If you look closely you can see the new M3 M4 torque figures are not that huge of a diff from a V8 , Just the V8 always feels more relaxed ( not over revving ) like the 6 .

And the electronic fan after shut down is normal. While driving your bmw it will charge back some power back to the battery . This is to insure there is always sufficient charge in the battery .

I tend to leave my engine running after stopping whilst the fan is running and switch off as soon as it stops
Probably unnecessary no doubt

That may be where the oddball AGM battery comes into play on the M850i with the active grill and fans. Turn the car off guessing the AGM runs the fans and then shuts the grill. 👍

The Lithium in the trunk is definitely what is connected to the starter and controls overall functions of the car. Why the M8s only have that as no active grills, etc. but the fans would run off the lithium for the cool down.

I love the fan blowing at the end. Are you kidding me? What’s not to love about that?

More cylinders+hot V set up = more heat. It’s a beautiful thing

I like to think of the two battery thing as a “mild hybrid” on mine… if that keeps the tree-huggers happy 😆

My emissions are notably lower than the 2015 VW Passat owned by the last person who tried to suggest that my V8 was SO terrible!
