My wife got me this for a stocking stuffer.
Pretty damn cool, considering I've flown this exact tail. The company has these from a lot of different aircraft. Sadly, there aren't any UAL 737's-- I would have snapped up one of those as well. R.

A new Chinese 6th generation fighter -- the Shenyang J-XD2 -- has flown for the first time. It may be an unmanned aircraft. It certainly has an unusual layout, with lots of wing area.

451 was going to be the display bird at Travis if memory serves me. Did a Westover Non M crew fly it DM to get chopped up? I was on last B Model flight out of Dover shortly before I retired in Feb 17 due to could not pass the hearing anymore. TF-39's and APU and lawn darts when I worked as a contractor. In 2011, U.S. Navy aviation celebrated its centennial with a number of aircraft that were painted in legacy colors. Only aircraft that were not deployable were to be painted, which resulted in a number of training and test aircraft wearing historical schemes.
As the training squadron for electronic attack aircraft, VAQ-129 at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, was one of the units that featured historical paint jobs. In the foreground is an EA-6B Prowler with markings similar to those of early 1942, while the EA-18G in the background is painted up in 1945 colors.

A clearer photo shows the aircraft, now identified as the J-36, as a manned fighter. And the manufacturer is Chengdu, not Shenyang. But Shenyang is *also* flying a 6th gen prototype -- see my post below...

New Shenyang fighter prototype in flight tests. Like its Chengdu counterpart, also presumed to be a 6th generation fighter.
This is a bit like watching aviation developments in the USSR in the 1950s and 1960s -- a guessing game. The Chinese also have a bomber under development. They are working like crazy to develop new hardware.

EDIT The NGS system should be there you just can’t see it from this angle because it’s blocked by the hydraulic reservoir in the lower right corner of the picture. Last edited by V1_ROT8; Yesterday at 02:01 PM.. |

I know, but I thought this was the airplane geek-out thread, so I geeked out a little 🤣
I’m genuinely curious about the red loop/bundle of wires though. I’m pretty positive our aircraft don’t have that. Maybe this is a MAX10 and it’s related to the telescoping main gear? |
