There were 537 homicides in the UK in 2014 and 14,249 murders in the US. That comes out to a rate of 0.9 homicides per 100,000 in the UK and 4.6 homicides per 100,000 in the US.
Unless you are a drug dealer or a gang member you are statistically far more likely to win the lottery than be murdered in the UK.
