carbs are not my strong point and when it comes to these older cars its a bit tough because parts are more brittle from age so I'm weary of getting too far into something I'm not great with...
Unless you find an easy fix, you may want to consider rebuilding the carb, all new gaskets and such. You may even have a hole in your float allowing it to fill up with gas and not float.

I would hate to see that car burn, get it fixed asap
