With proper tires, it should surpass most everything else that has been suggested for your performance needs. Some don't like the aesthetics - I think they're badass. Tons of relatively cheap and easy modifications available, too.

I love the aesthetics of the FJ. Lots of them are 2WD though and the ride was less than idea.
