Both the 5 and 8 series share their platform with the 7 series.
And the last gen E coupe was based on a C-class platform and yet nobody ever compared it to the 4 series or 3 coupe. The 6 was always between the E and S class coupes in terms of size and price. The 8 retains the size of the 6 but has been moved further upmarket with a price to match, to compete with the S coupe and SL.
