I grew up just outside of Cape Canaveral, FL in the 80's. We used to always watch the shuttle launches and drove out to the Canaveral viewing area a couple of times. It was so cool.

I remember anytime a shuttle was going up, we would get to leave the classroom if at school to go and watch it - this included the Challenger disaster. We all thought that it looked a bit odd, then the principle came in a few minutes later and told us all what happened. Was pretty rough for a 4th grader.

I sat on a board in Santa Monica and the COB was good friends with Musk. We were able to secure a private tour of Space-X including watching how they made most of the parts with high tech 3D printers. Also got to go into the control room, where there were only about 2 or 3 girls in their 20's manning everything (multiple PhD's I am sure, though). This was in 2014-2015. Very cool. Very impressive things Space-X is doing.
We must be very close in age. I too was in the fourth grade when the Challenger disaster happened. It was a very cold snowy day in east TN, we were out of school that day. My sister and I watched it happen live on TV.
