I do understand chasing the latest and greatest if the new car is significantly better than the old one. And in the entire history of the ICE automobile, every generation has certainly made significant improvements than the old one. Except the last generation or two. This is the first time in my life that i've been unexcited about new cars because i feel that they're worse than the old ones.

I agree with you; BUT I also have friends who feel anything past 1990 is even "soulless".
We have moved very far away from products that having inherent driving enjoyment from the actual dynamics and more into enjoyment people get from statistics and technical data. Not my cup of tea for sure...
