Check out this post from Wolfman64 as it has the best info to date which ultimately is a software fix. It makes complete sense as the issue is non-existent for M850i's (N63) or the 840i's (B58) yet the condenser, compressor, etc. are likely universal across the 8-series.

According to our SA, there is an issue with the 8 series with S63 engine where either the evaporator or condenser freezes up and then the AC stops cooling even though equipment is working and Compressor is good.
