And I agree with you on the center display. It's either a map, turn by turn directions or OFF. Needs improvement, which I'm sure will come as this is BMW's first attempt at it.

Re. NFC: iPhones had NFC since 2014 (iPhone6). Issue was the ability for others to access it as Apple had locked it down initially for ApplePay only.
After piecemeal updates, Apple finally made the API available with IOS13.

At this point, it's actually BMW that is behind on updating their software to create digital keys for the iPhone.

Hoping for this to happen soon. At least the tools are there to do it...
